Good Morning. Happy Birthday Randy Tate, Al Leiter, and Andrew Mitchell. Steve Cohen vote could come next Wednesday. No DH for NL next year? And $245M for Trevor Bauer?

Andy
Martino SNY.TV: As Mets sale winds down, vote next week is possible -- but
they have to resolve an issue first. “Vote could come as early as next
Wednesday…But the vote is not yet scheduled, in part because the parties
involved in the sale want to be sure that any outstanding issue with New York
City mayor Bill de Blasio is resolved before the league’s owners decide if they
are going to approve Cohen, according to sources.”
SNY.TV:
Alex Rodriguez says he would have increased Mets' payroll to $225 million if
he'd purchased team. Former Yankee also said he was excited to bring a
championship back to New York.
Seriously? Jeanne Buss first female owner to win a championship? You didn’t specify NBA. Might want to look up Joan Payson. Or Georgia Frontiere while you’re at it. Or for that matter Jackie Autry. Ever hear of Effa Manley? https://t.co/kpka6kpjPR

I'm told Rod and JLO with assistance from Al Sharpton are #DeBlasio puppeteers. They really won't walk away from the #Mets

Sanchez MLB.com: 2019-20 international signings for all 30 clubs. “About
the Mets he says: Pool Amount: $5,398,300; Pool Spent: $5,325,000; The Mets
stocked their Minor League system with a whopping 61 international prospects
signed during the 2019-2020 period. While outfielder Alexander Ramirez (No. 26
on the International Top 30), who signed for $2.05 million, deserves attention,
the club hopes others can produce in the short and long term. The Mets also
have high hopes for outfielders Eric Santana ($350,000) and Yeral Martinez
($335,000).”
John
Harper SNY.TV: Sources on what it could take to land Trevor Bauer -- and where
he'll end up. “Will Bauer, who turns
30 in January, come close to that type of money? The people I spoke to think
it’s more likely he’ll wind up with something closer to the seven-year, $245
million deal that Stephen Strasburg signed to remain with the Nationals last
winter.” As far as possible teams John
pointed to Steve Cohen and the Mets as well as the Angels and the White Sox.

Matt Allan looks pretty elite in that video - thanks for finding it.
ReplyDeleteRandy Tate: I still remember that one game where the then-22 year old looked like 2012 Matt Harvey - but who knew he only had a few more weeks in his big league career after that. Per Wikipedia:
Tate is best known for nearly pitching a no-hitter on August 4, 1975 at Shea Stadium against the Montreal Expos. Despite not allowing a hit through seven and one third innings, and fanning 13, Tate ended up losing the game—which seems to have been the final straw for Mets management regarding the tenure of manager Yogi Berra, who was fired the next day.
After spending the entire 1975 season in the Mets starting pitching rotation, Tate was sent to the Mets' class AAA minor league affiliate at Tidewater for the 1976 season. He pitched poorly and never made another major league appearance. After 1976, Tate was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates and pitched for their Triple A affiliate. He tore his rotator cuff and was forced out of the league
That Randy Tate game was tough. I remember listening to it on the radio and couldn't believe how quickly that game was lost. Up 3-0 in the 8th, thanks to two RBIs from Gene Clines, Expos score 4 as Mike Jorgensen hits a 3 run homer. The starting pitcher for the Expos that night? Dan Warthen with ex-Met, Chuck Taylor getting the save.
ReplyDeleteThe game started at 8:19 that night - time of game 2 hours - 22 minutes!
