As we had earlier today on the Mets Breakfast Links, great start today by former Met Chris Flexen in the opening game for the Doosan Bears in the KBO Playoffs.
Over shutout
6 innings, Chris struck out 11 with just one walk in the 4-0 Bears win (Box Score).
“Flexen was
one of the league's best starters in October, with a 4-0 record, 0.85 ERA and
42 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings. He wrapped up his regular season with 13 2/3
shutout innings and 22 strikeouts over his final two starts, and then picked up
right where he left off on Wednesday…Flexen struck out the first batter of the
game, Hong Chang-ki, and the tone was set. After a one-out walk, Flexen struck
out the next two batters to complete the first inning…Flexen then struck out
two batters in each of the next three innings, giving himself nine through four
innings against just two singles.”

During the
regular KBO season Chris Flexen threw 20 games, 7-4, 3.19 ERA, 110 innings, 94
hits, 39 earned runs, 6 HR, 30 walks, 122 Ks.
His biggest problem was a foot injury that caused him to miss about 5 starts.
In 2017 After
going 6-1 with a 1.76 ERA in A ball and AA, he was brought up to the majors and
made 9 starts for a 3-6 record, 7.88 ERA.
In his time
with the Mets, it never seemed like Chris had an extended chance to get into a
groove over parts of three seasons. His
overall Mets record 3-11, 8.07 ERA, 27 games, 11 starts, 68 innings, 49 Ks, 14
HRs.
Had he
stayed with the Mets or another MLB team, it is hard to see that we would have
gotten regular work in 2020 with no AAA baseball.
Glad things
are working out for him in Korea.
Flex seems to have made an excellent career move, and now looks major league ready, whereas he wasn't before. Best wishes to him.
