Joel
Sherman NY Post: Mets should avoid Francisco Lindor trade temptation. Joel
makes the case clearly that many of us have been saying all along: “The Mets
are depth challenged at the upper minor leagues. Thus, they should be keeping
as much — if not all — of their major-league collateral as possible to
withstand the long season since they cannot expect much help from below in 2021…The
Mets can play Andres Gimenez at shortstop and upgrade elsewhere
with not only Cohen’s cash advantage as the majors’ richest owner…Many teams
are not expected to play aggressively or at all in free agency.”
Mike’s
Mets in “To Everything a Season” agrees by saying “I'd rather see the Mets
husband their player currency very carefully and spend the cash currency on
multiple starting pitchers, relievers and a catcher, while filling out their
roster with as many upgrades as possible.”
Joe Vasile Mets360.com: Signing George
Springer good for Mets on and off the field. “Signing Springer, a
Connecticut native, would send a message to the rest of Major League Baseball
that the new Mets are not just talk, but that they mean business.”
Metsmerized
Online: Links To George Springer In Mets’ Front Office Search. “Bobby Heck,
special assistant to the general manager of the Tampa Bay Rays, served six
years prior as the assistant GM and scouting director for the Astros and…
delivered the 2017 World Series MVP [George Springer] to Houston as a first round
selection in the 2011 MLB draft.
Ken
Davidoff NY Post: Mets expressing MLB free-agency interest in Marcell
Ozuna. Ozuna spent most of his time (39 games) at DH, mixing in 19 starts
in left field and two in right field. The Mets appear covered at these three
positions…But Ozuna can’t be wholly ignored because he slashed .356/.463/.867
against lefty pitching and is .294/.349/.517 for his career.
Should the Mets go after Marcell Ozuna?

Rising Apple: New
York Mets must trade J.D. Davis this offseason. “No matter where he plays
in the field, he’s a defensive liability…Davis is 27 years old, is under team
control through the 2024 season, and is still very valuable. The Mets would be
able to get a good return for him now, and there’s a strong chance his value
only continues to decrease.”
Mets
Junkies: Free Agent Target Liam Hendriks. “In 2019, Hendriks
put up a 1.80 ERA in 75 appearances, striking out an amazing 124 batters in 85
innings pitched, wow.
Rising
Apple: Will the Mets stay under the luxury tax threshold with Steve Cohen? Based
on the latest projections, the Mets have a payroll of about $162M, which would
leave them with about roughly $48M to add this offseason without going over the
luxury tax…$210M.

I feel the same way, actually, about Lindor not coming to the Mets and spending elsewhere. If, however, Cohen wants to go crazy spending, then acquiring a guy as good as Lindor is very attractive.
ReplyDeleteI took a look at Ariel Jurado's career record (majors and minors). He sure gives up lots of hits. That said, I think he is still 24.
Always good to see Jenrry Mejia pitch - I don't know why, given his 3 suspensions. I still remember the battle he lost against Ryan Howard in one log at bat. He was not scared.
long at bat, not log at bat
ReplyDeleteMorning Tom. If only the Doosan Bears could pitch Chris Flexen every inning of every game.
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about "new Met Robel Garcia". Is he a prospect or filler?
ReplyDeleteMy vote - filler. He signed as a minor league free agent a couple of weeks ago. I missed him as I went over the rosters the other day.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I should've checked his MnL stats before asking. Now I see that he's not a hitter.
