Davidoff NY Post: Mets have their finalists as GM search approaches conclusion. “An industry source confirmed that
a pair of assistant GMs, Jared Porter of the Diamondbacks and Zack Scott of the
Red Sox, join the previously reported Michael Hill, most recently the Marlins’
president of baseball operations, and Athletics assistant GM Billy Owens as
applicants who have advanced to this stage.”
Porter’s name has been swirling a bit. Hill hadn’t heard from Mets in quite a bit of time but was considered at least technically still in. Have heard Owens is downplayed a bit by people who know situation. But key is that Alderson hasn’t been talking and it’s his call. https://t.co/NZd0xfLt81

Ken
Davidoff NY Post: Mets signing J.T. Realmuto still possible if James McCann
gets away.
“The Mets have stayed in touch with the J.T.
Realmuto camp in case the market shifts.
Nevertheless, it appears they’d rather sign James
McCann to catch and then commit a larger
contract to either Trevor
Bauer or George
Springer (or both).”

I know we’re all focused on Springer, Bauer and McCann but PLEASE don’t forget about another huge move the Mets need to make this offseason:

Post: Mets bringing back Jerry Blevins on minor league contract. “With the Mets from 2015 through
2018, he tallied a 3.38 ERA in 219 games. If he makes the Mets, he would earn a
salary of $1.25 million.”

Brian Joura Mets360: Mets did
addition by subtraction on December 11, 1981. “On that date, in two separate
deals, the Mets cut ties with their double play combo of Doug
Flynn
and Frank
Taveras.
In their Mets careers, Flynn amassed a 57 OPS+ over 2,269 PA while Taveras
notched a 75 OPS+ in 1,583 PA.”
Mike’s
Mets: Beware the Dreaded Dombrowski. “One of the lessons that I've
learned from a lifetime of following this sport is that what your team does is
much, much more important than what its competitors do. If your team is well-run
and makes mostly smart decisions you're going to have a decent shot at winning,
even if the competition in your division is pretty strong.”

they decide to wait until the 2021 campaign concludes before making him
available on the trade market. If he’s able to further convince that his

He was the final piece and an important one in so many ways. He brought an aggressive, hustling style of play along with leadership behind the plate & a will to win. A consummate pro. He played with pain but always ran in & out to his position. I miss him. https://t.co/5seerkRN1p

Alvarez would not be joining the team when
the season starts next week. As Ernest
Dove has told us, 4 Mets Minor Leaguers are in Australia and ready to play,
Carlos Cortes, Manny Rodriquez, Andrew Mitchell, and Adam Oller.

1975 |
The Tigers
trade pitcher Mickey Lolich and outfielder Billy Baldwin to
the Mets in exchange for outfielder Rusty Staub and pitcher Bill Laxton. New
York's new southpaw will post an 8-13 record, spending just one year in the
Big Apple, while Detroit will enjoy a steady performance from their recently
acquired flycatcher and DH, who will bat .275 during his three-plus seasons
in the Motor City. |
2007 |
Paul Lo
Duca and the Nationals agree to a $5 million, one-year deal that puts the
former Mets catcher behind Washington's home plate. The free-agent backstop
became expendable and much-needed in the same instance when New York dealt
Lastings Milledge to get the Nats starting catcher, Brian Schneider. |
2008 |
The Mets,
reeling from their second consecutive season-ending collapse, continue to
overhaul their much-maligned bullpen, which had 29 blown saves in 72 chances
(40%). Scott Schoeneweis joins Joe Smith and Aaron Heilman in becoming the
latest New York reliever to be traded as the southpaw is dealt to the
Diamondbacks for Connor Robertson, a right-hander acquired by Arizona in the
Dan Haren deal. |

Could Jesus Reyes turn out to be a competent arm?
ReplyDeleteAmazing that the aforementioned Sean Gilmartin is married to Kaleigh Mcenany.
Let's get us a good GM and sign some stars.
We do forget Alvarez is a kid. I hope skipping Australia does not delay his development.
And welcome back Jerry Blevins. May be washed up, but we'll find out.
ReplyDeleteIf we get a regular or even close to regular minor league season next year - it will make a big difference for all the prospects and those of us who love to watch them
ReplyDeleteIt will be different, as some will show great strides from when we last saw them in games, given the 18 month gap, rather than the normal 6 month gap, and will be more mature. For instance, maybe Mauricio shows up 20-25 pounds heavier than in Sept 2019. On the other hand, loss of a season probably hindered development for some.
ReplyDeleteSo, the Metsies just signed McCann to 4/$40. GM should be next, according to Mike Puma of the NY Post. I was two starters more than Springer. But, I can be persuaded...
ReplyDeleteThanks Gus.
