Good
Morning. Happy Birthday David Cone.
Winter Ball games resume today and Bloggers have some very interesting New Year’s
Resolutions for the Mets.

Gus Livaditis Mets360: New Year’s
resolutions for the Mets. Gus sets goals for 11 different Mets including Jacob deGrom, Jeff McNeil, Dominic Smith, J.D. Davis, Amed Rosario, Brandon Nimmo, and Pete Alonso who Gus asks him “To stop chasing
pitches away in order to lower the 26% K%, to work hard on defense and
mobility, and to increase his starter worst 17.7% LD% [Line Drive Percentage].”
Mike
Phillips also has New Year’s Resolutions for the Mets in 2021 at Metstradamus’
Sports Daily site: He includes Steve Cohen, Sandy Alderson, Jared Porter,
and Luis
Rojas in his list. Especially like
what he has for James McCann: “Don’t try to do too much” and Noah Syndergaard: “Don’t rush back from Tommy John
surgery”.

trust him)?

On Baseball: Steve Cohen: Frustration Continues To Rise As Mets Remain
Handcuffed. “While the Mets have players of value on their major league
roster, teams like the Cubs and Rays are in a rebuilding and cost-cutting mode,
having no need or interest in what the Mets bring to the table.”

Mike’s

Rising
Apple: Mets offseason strategy for success is superior to the Padres plan. “While
New York has yet to match the splash moves of the Padres, they have also made
their roster improvements without sacrificing from their farm system. Instead,
they have elected to use their financial capital to build what they hope is a
postseason contender.”

Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteMay it be far happier for Mets fans this October, and May we have a Canyon of Heroes parade without social distancing
Gus article had some excellent suggestions for Mets players in 2021.
ReplyDeleteI have often made the Jake point Gus makes.....throw less pitches, stay in games longer. Like my Mom used to say, you want it done right, do it yourself. Pitching just 6.2 innings per start is NOT doing it right.
Let's hope Tom.
ReplyDeleteAnon - I agree, really enjoyed Gus' post. Agreed on what he said about Pete as well. As far as deGrom, when players are fouling off his pitches throughout the game - it seems he does not have his best stuff. He tends to throw more pitches in those games.
Happy New Year from me as well.
ReplyDeleteJohn and Anon, thanks for the love on the article. Tried to do a little digging and was surprised at the two stats y’all mentioned. Thought Alonso’s barreling would lead to more frozen ropes and John, my buddy - to whom I read the article before sending it - also pointed out the foul balls off DeGrom. Two schools of thought: 1. Verlander and Scherzer are never giving in and seem to go deep into games 2. Blake Snell won 22 games going 5.2 innings per start - with a better bullpen - but then his luck got used up and didn’t enjoy that success again. JDG has some cheap wins owed to him.
