Good Morning. Happy Birthday Austin Jackson. Juan Lagares opens the Caribbean Series with a bang, Drew Smith looks good, latest on Trevor Bauer, and MLB and Players Union still can't agree.

Kevin interviewed Ron Darling about what great Mets Trainer Tom McKenna taught him and contains this quote: “You can’t abandon your pitching staff by putting a poor defense out there,’’ Darling said of the Mets’ upgrades. “People in charge certainly know that. That old adage of being strong up the middle offensively and defensively still works. So all the new ideas are old ideas that have been around forever."

Some personal news: After six wonderful seasons with the Dodgers, culminating in a World Series win, I am very excited to be joining the @Mets as Director of Baseball Analytics.
...People in the industry believe that Bauer is seeking a high AAV salary for about 3-4 years. Bauer would like to sign with his hometown team the Dodgers, but they are only interested in a short team commitment. Expect more news in the coming days.

Deadline for the players union is Monday to respond to MLB proposal of 162 games pay for 154 games, one month delay, universal DH and expanded playoffs. It’s clear the union won’t accept as it (it doesn’t like extra playoffs and other things) but the hope is it counters.

I guess Bauer will make his decision soon, being as it is February.
ReplyDeleteMLB proposal sounds solid to me - but I'm not a player.
11 months now since JT Ginn surgery = assuming he isn't stuck in some trade, I guess we'll soon start to see if he is a post-TJS Jake deGrom type in the coming months.
Bauer keeps teasing about the NL East and small inferences to the Mets because he wants to get the Dodgers’ attention and wants to get the Dodgers to step up. He doesn’t want the Mets...
ReplyDeleteThink you are right Gus but the Mets are bidding against themselves. Hope they are careful.
ReplyDeleteIf the Dodgers get Bauer, you may just as well coronate the Dodgers now.
