What’s next.
The Mets and Red Sox finish up their quick two-game series with a 6:40 p.m.
start on Wednesday. Jacob deGrom looks to provide an encore to his 15-strikeout
two-hitter as he takes the mound against Nick Pivetta.
NY
Post: Garrett
Richards arrived at Citi Field on Tuesday with 13 walks, 12 strikeouts and
a 6.48 ERA through his first four starts for the Red Sox this season. The Mets
welcomed him with a parade of whiffs
Metstradamus:
“…Richards held a clinic on how to beat the Mets, and it’s pretty simple: First
time through the order, you set them up with fastballs… Richards’ final 62 pitchers were 32
off speed and 30 fastballs.”
Mets360: “David Peterson gave a strong
effort, a nice bounceback from his last outing, but it wasn’t enough, as he
allowed 2 ER in 6 IP. The Mets got three scoreless innings from their pen,
including one by Jeurys Familia that included two bullets hit by the Sox,
making up for some of those cheap hits he gave up earlier.” (Subscription

David
Lennon Newsday: “The Mets’ only hit with a runner in scoring position
(1-for-3) failed to get Michael Conforto in from second base but actually
raised their average in those situations to .193, which is still dead-last in
the majors. Jeff McNeil was responsible for the Mets’ lone run, blasting a
first-pitch fastball into the rightfield seats in the second inning, but he
also whiffed to strand two in the fourth.”
Mike
Vaccaro NY Post: Francisco Lindor can’t escape boos from fed-up Mets fans.
Anthony
DiComo Mets.com: Lindor’s lone hit on Tuesday was a swinging bunt that he
beat out for a single. His 1-for-4 performance actually raised his season
average to .212, but the Mets could not bring him around to score.
Deesha Thosar NY Daily News: After Francisco Lindor grounded out in his fourth at-bat, capping his 1-for-4 night at the plate, the superstar shortstop was booed by the Citi Field crowd on his way into the dugout. Though he made a terrific catch and dive to end the seventh with an unassisted double play at second base to get Jeurys Familia out of the inning, Lindor has looked off-balance at the plate.

Luis Rojas noted that Francisco Lindor seems to be trying to pull everything right now, which certainly appeared true tonight. These are the four pitches Lindor put in play against the Red Sox. 1965 | As Houston fans cheer their pregame ascent, Mets announcer Lindsey Nelson and a radio engineer climb into the Astrodome's gondola and are hoisted 208 feet above second base to broadcast the game. The umpiring crew determines that any ball hitting the pair will be in play, since an existing ground rule also calls a ball hitting any part of the dome is also in play. |
1995 | Showing their displeasure at the recent baseball strike, three fans jump a Shea Stadium fence with one out in the top of the fourth inning, and begin scattering dollar bills at the feet of the Mets' players on the field. As a finale to their defiant act, the trio stands on second base with arms raised, showing the Opening Day crowd T-shirts that are stenciled with the word Greed. |
2010 | David Wright surpasses Ed Kranepool to become the Mets all-time leader in doubles. The 27 year-old third baseman, who collected his 1,000th career hit yesterday, strokes his 226th two-bagger in the second inning of the Mets' 7-3 victory over L.A. at Citi Field. |

Wrote a long post about how nauseating the lack of hitting is getting. It crashed. So I'll keep it short: HITTING SUCKS BADLY
ReplyDeleteNeed team speed and need Guillorme in the lineup everyday - especially with Nimmo hurt. ANd can we please stop this business of not putting people on the IL hoping they get better? If they are hurt, put them on the IL and bring up a replacement. All I am saying is "Give Fargas a Chance!"
ReplyDeleteThis morning in Korea - Walker Lockett 6 innings allowing 1 run for Chris Flexen's former team - Doosan. His ERA so far this year is under 2. Does anyone want to see these KBO updates to return?
ReplyDeleteOnce a month on Lockett is plenty, John. Don’t go crazy, you give us too much already, LOL. It’s a great read every morning, I’ve said it before, better than SportsCenter.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gus - and yesterday the Spanish Announcer included the Sports Center theme as part of that call on Almora!
ReplyDeleteSo...what IS the story with Nimmo? How'd he hurt his hip?
ReplyDeleteTom - Luis Rojas said that an MRI revealed that Nimmo's hip had a “mild impingement.” Hopefully it is not something that lingers.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, Nimmo's impingement is nothing like that of Betances.
