NY Post: Mets-Brewers postponed after long rain delay. “After a two-and-a-half-hour rain delay, the Mets’ game against the Brewers Tuesday night at Citi Field was postponed. The teams will play a split doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 2:10 p.m”

Per Anthony DiComo: G1, 2:10 p.m: Corbin Burnes vs. Jacob deGrom G2, 7:10 p.m: Brett Anderson vs. TBA (probably Robert Stock).

Mets.com: “RHP Corey Oswalt (right knee inflammation) placed on 10-day IL. Oswalt, who pitched four innings on Sunday, was not expected to start another game before the All-Star break, but he could factor into the Mets’ late-July rotation plans if he is healthy enough to pitch.”

NY Post: “The Mets called up Stock to replace Corey Oswalt, who was placed on the injured list with right knee inflammation after throwing four innings in a spot start Sunday against the Yankees.”

Ken Davidoff NY Post: Why it just got harder for Jacob deGrom to skip All-Star Game. “Surely he won’t start Sunday’s first-half finale on short rest, and that in turn robs him of the excuse he possessed to not pitch for the National League — for whom he is the slam-dunk candidate to start — in the July 13 Midsummer Classic at every pitcher’s least-favorite site, Coors Field.”

SNY.TV: Luis Rojas would '100 percent' want Taijuan Walker or Edwin Diaz to replace Jacob deGrom at All-Star Game. 'Those two guys earned it for me'

John Harper SNY.TV: Ranking 8 starting pitchers Mets can most likely deal for by MLB trade deadline. Not wanting to let go of top prospects, Mets may not be in on the elite trade options. 1) RHP Zach Davies, Cubs; 2) RHP Jon Gray, Rockies; 3) LHP Tyler Anderson, Pirates lead his list.

NY Post: Five pressing questions facing the Mets in second half. “1. Can the top of the rotation keep this up? 2. What do they get from the rest of the rotation? 3. Can the lineup finally play up to its potential when healthy? 4. Will Francisco Lindor rise to the occasion? 5. What kind of test will the rest of the NL East give them?”

NY Post: The key to Trevor May’s Mets turnaround. “Since his ERA ballooned to 4.57 on June 14, May has turned his season around with nine consecutive scoreless appearances, dropping his ERA to 3.23…To Mets manager Luis Rojas, the secret to May’s success lies in his slider…May hasn’t allowed a hit off his slider since June 14, when the Cubs’ Patrick Wisdom connected for a home run.”

Mets.com: Like father, like son: Wendells ready for Draft. “Much like his father, Wyatt Wendell is the proud owner of a necklace made from genuine animal parts, including bear claws, turkey spurs, elk teeth, deer antlers and other such paraphernalia…The younger Wendell recently committed to pitch at Purdue University following two seasons at Indian Hills Community College in Centerville, Iowa.

1964

In the only All-Star Game ever played at Shea Stadium, the National League evens the all-time series at 18 victories for each circuit by beating the AL, 7-4, with a dramatic ninth-inning rally which includes a three-run homer by Phillies slugger Johnny Callison. Home team second baseman Ron Hunt becomes the first Mets player selected as a starter in the Midsummer Classic.

2008

After taking a nine-run lead into the sixth inning, the Mets hold on to beat the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, 10-9. The game is eerily similar to a 1992 contest, also played in Philadelphia, that caused Hall of Fame announcer Bob Murphy to remark after the final out, "they win the damn thing by a score of 10 to 9!"

2012

Bryce Harper becomes the youngest position player to make an All-Star team when he is named to replace Miami's Giancarlo Stanton, who is unable to participate because of an injury. The 19 year-old Nationals outfielder, who is older than hurlers Dwight Gooden (Mets) and Bob Feller (Indians) when they played in their first Midsummer Classics, surpasses backstop Butch Wynegar (Twins) as the youngest non-pitcher to be selected.

  1. Remarkable how Brooklyn scores on the road, hug?

Nice oppo field power from Alvarez.

This kid Tovar could really be something.

Szapucki sputters again. All he can do is keep working.

  2. Tom - Peroza two more RBIS. Peroza is younger (6/15/2000) than Baty (11/13/99)...more minor league experience...an RBI machine.

How about Vientos to Syracuse, Baty to Binghamton and Peroza to Brooklyn after the All-Star game?

  3. Ken Rosenthal on MLB Network was speculating Kris Bryant and Zach Davies to the Mets for Szapucki and Vientos. Not sure I'd want to give up Vientos but better than giving up Alvarez whom the Cubs asked for this Spring.

  4. John, I would do that trade in a heartbeat. Those are two rental players, but personally I would then try to sign Bryant before Conforto.

The wild-card here is Cano. There is still that 40-something million left on his contract that will kick back in in 2022.

Vientos might end up hitting a ton in Wrigley, but he is still an incomplete player - lack of speed and questionable defense makes him expendable in a win-now scenario.

  5. Great points Bill. Of course, this deal won't be a solid rumor w/o you anonymous texter confirming it...lol

  6. Laughing. Haven't heard any more from him lately

  7. That deal is tempting, but I don’t like the price. We know Vientos is a glacier and Szapucki isn’t what he used to be, but… I could live with Szapucki and say Ritter…

  8. John, Peroza is also an on base machine - he could be a very good trade chip.

I agree - I would be very wary of shipping out Vientos. He seems like Wilmer Flores with more power and more Ks. He could be a 30+ MLB HR guy.

Cano? I still wonder if they'll want him back or will strike a discounted deal. The Yankees could then sign him.
