  1. Where, oh where, has our AFL offense gone?

  2. They at least should hit enough to get in a game.

  3. Boy, John, that first game where as I recall, Baty and Cortes combined for 7 hits? I was psyched. Since then, disappointed. There is so much hitting in the AFL - it concerns me about our guys. That said, the season is not over.

  4. I, too, am disappointed but never really expected much from anyone other than Baty. Reyes is not ready for this kind of challenge, Senger is a light bat on a good day, and Cortes has always been a bit over-hyped in my opinion.

Whitey Herzog once said that a player should hit for power, have speed or be a backup; Cortes is the latter. He has some power, but not exactly Javy Baez, he doesn’t have any speed and his defense isn’t all that. What people see is beyond me.

Baty on the other hand was figured out after the first week and he hasn’t adjusted. Shame, it would be nice to see him do better.

  5. Gus, good points. Cortes looked to be busting out of "Prove it to me" mode in late June. He's back in there now.

Reyes I am a little more forgiving on, given all the time he missed, but he is clearly in Prove it to me mode too.

Senger hit OK, but had few RBIs in 2021, so we'll see how he develops, while the Francisco Alvarez Comet sails past him in 2022.

  6. Reyes has speed and can play the infield and outfield. He is a legit prospect. Only question is if the knee injury this year hurt his speed.

Cortes biggest strength has been ability to hit with runners in scoring position so of course he hit lead off this year in Binghamton. At one point saw him as a valuable bench piece bc he plays infield and corner outfield but he has been told no more OF for him - so who knows.

  7. John, in a piece Jacob Resnick wrote for SNY yesterday, he calls Cortes a lock to be drafted if left unprotected. To me, Cortes looks to be a bench piece that’s in AA right now, so I don’t agree.

  8. Cortes is on some people's Mets Top 10 prospect list. So I can see why he'd say that.

Jacob also thinks Nick Meyer will not be drafted due to his bat - I think Nick Meyer - one of the best defensive catchers in the minors will be a prime target - also he started to hit last year.
