He had a good year after the 2020 non-season. Hopefully, Rincon adds some walks and hits and loses some Ks in 2022. He has fine power.
ReplyDeleteTom - I really think Joel Chimelis in Syracuse will help him a lot this year - His "aggressive in the zone" approach could be just what he needs.
ReplyDeleteI also have him 14! Nice job Tom!
ReplyDeleteThe reason is two fold:
1. The Mets don’t have too many prospects with plus-plus tools. So, it’s a shallow system making easier to be ranked higher.
2. I have a good feeling about the kid and I like the power. Also, I believe he will get better as I notice he looks to make hard contact without really selling out for the homerun. But, the HR will happen for him more often than others due to his power.
Also, I have him right before Palmer until Palmer can cut the K’s.
I like Rincon as well - especially because he had more RBIs last year than anyone else in the Mets system. Palmer though has speed and can play INF and OF - a potentially very valuable player.
ReplyDeleteJohn, perhaps he can be a Carlos Delgado type - but that will require MORE CONTACT.
ReplyDeleteRight now, he is Aderlin Rodriguez. He needs to be better than that A Rod. Just drive the ball, the HRs will come. His Ks did seem to come down a but after June, which is good, and his average was up around ,285 after June.
I normally don't look at splits in the minors, but his hitting with 2 outs and RISP was excellent: .329/.415/.600. Maybe it is focus - he needs to focus in all his at bats like that? Maybe.
Gus, very true, both have him at 14 and for essentially the same reason.
ReplyDeletePalmer I'd love to have at 15, as he is so athletic, but can't until he can prove his High A strikeouts were fixable. 65 in 39 games? Way too high. So I do not remember where I put him, but for that reason alone, I have him far lower than # 15. My comp for him remains Champ Stuart until proven otherwise.
With a guy with Palmer's speed, I would be coaching him to go "old school" on 2 strikes. Shorten up, avoid the K at all costs.
Tom, good news. Newton and Palmer were going to a hitting clinic this winter for specific prospects that needed technical help. It’s very much like what the Cardinals did with Nick Plummer. Hopefully it can help both players.
ReplyDeleteI saw Palmer in the top ten on several lists and I saw Newton left off several lists. I can’t figure out the difference. Palmer’s defensive flexibility puts him in the teens on my list while Newton is in the twenties. However, with the Mets having made Palmer a full time outfielder due to his erratic throwing, I should move him closer to Newton.
