2. Walker Jenkins, OF, South Brunswick HS (NC) – A legit middle-of-the-order bat, Jenkins has performed with the Team USA 18U team as an underclassman and wasn’t overmatched. He currently plays center although there is some thought he will lose some of his speed as he fills out. Even if he does move to a corner, his plus arm and centerfield instincts could make him a plus right fielder. At the plate, he does not sacrifice hit for power, but he has plenty of power, with 30+ home run potential in the bat.

“The swing is gorgeous, with plus bat speed and excellent zone awareness…”

8: Walker Jenkins, OF, South Brunswick HS (Oak Island, NC)

Jenkins earned a spot on the USA U18 team as an underclassman. He's got a plus bat that hits for average and power. That's Aaron Judge-level stuff.

I'm not saying he's Aaron Judge. But his 6-3, 205-pound frame will translate well in the MLB.

5. Minnesota Twins: Walker Jenkins, OF, South Brunswick HS (NC)

The Twins lucked into this selection and they’ll nab a five-tool center fielder with huge raw power who hits from the left side. Jenkins is one of the best prep hitters in the class.

4. Texas Rangers: Walker Jenkins, outfielder, South Brunswick HS (NC)

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at Texas Rangers

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

While the Texas Rangers have spent many of their recent first-round picks on collegiate players, that could change with a new front office. Walker Jenkins, the 6-foot-3 outfielder out of North Carolina, comes with a breathtaking swing that he turns into some of the best bat speed in the entire 2023 MLB Draft class. Committed to the Tar Heels, an MLB team won’t hesitate to take the center fielder early with his long-term profile as a top-of-the-order hitter with solid fielding.

6. Oakland A’s: Walter Jenkins, OF, South Brunswick HS (NC)

Jenkins power isn’t sneaky, it’s been there right in front of our faces. He’s a classic thumper who barrels up with a lot of bat speed to all fields. And he isn’t just power, his hit tool has a chance to go above 60 as well.

12-8-22 - https://baseballprospectjournal.com/walker-jenkins-is-an-impressive-all-around-player/ -

Walker Jenkins is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound left-handed hitting center fielder known for his ability at the plate. He has notable bat speed and an exciting knack for hitting for average and above-average power. He is a confident hitter with simple mechanics and a quality understanding of the strike zone.

Besides his ability to consistently barrel up pitches and drive the ball to all parts of the field, Jenkins also makes an impact with his above-average speed on the base pads.

Walker Jenkins

Carrying heavy lumber from the left side, Jenkins might be the best bat in the class when all is said and done. Hit/Power potential with plus makeup.

4. Texas Rangers

Walker Jenkins, Outfield, South Brunswick

The Rangers heavily considered high school talent in 2022, but with Jenkins and Max Clark still on the board here, it’s quite a win. Jenkins has the potential to be a 5-tool centerfielder with massive raw power and a polished hit tool that keeps his floor rather high. Jenkins has had some bumps and bruises keep him off the field this year at times, but when healthy, he’s looked like the best player in the country.

4. Cincinnati Reds | Walker Jenkins, OF, South Brunswick HS (N.C.)

With the first three picks going chalk as far as how our board lines up, I was ecstatic to grab the top prep on the draft board in Jenkins, whose overall tool set is highlighted by the consistency with which he does damage. He might not play center long term, but the upside is a high-level middle-order hitter with 25-30 home run potential who should add defensive value in an outfield corner if he has to move there. -Brian Sakowski

11-4-22 - 2023 NATIONAL RANKINGS UPDATED -

https://www.prepbaseballreport.com/news/PBR/2023-National-Rankings-Updated-2768549031?s=03

At the top, CF Max Clark (Franklin HS, IN) still reigns as the top prospect in the class, but it is not without challenge from OF Walker Jenkins (South Brunswick HS, NC). The scenario is more likely 1A and 1B, and after recovering from a hand injury, Jenkins hit the ground running at the PBR Cup in September where he reasserted himself as a force in this draft class with 1:1 aspirations.

The hit and power tools are enough for teams to line up with signing bonuses that are approaching eight figures. A physical specimen who checks all the boxes with regards to makeup and baseball IQ, it would come as no surprise for Jenkins to be the first selection in July’s MLB Draft.

11-4-22 - WWBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS NOTEBOOK - https://www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/2022-wwba-world-championships-notebook-1?s=03 -

CF Walker Jenkins, South Brunswick (NC), 2023

Performance: 5-18, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 BB, 4 K, 2 SB, .984 OPS

Commitment: North Carolina

Walker Jenkins was already at the top of the prep rankings for the 2022 class, but his performances at the PBR Cup and Jupiter over the last month have been instrumental in affirming that he’s 100% healthy.

Jenkins has been putting together his usual competitive at-bats and driving pitches with authority, which is very encouraging to see after a hamate injury in the middle of the summer caused him to miss PG National and East Coast Pro. As 2022 wraps up, he’s neck and neck with Maxwell Clark as the top prep bat in the 2023 MLB Draft.

6. Walker Jenkins

Outfield, South Brunswick

Jenkins is long, lean, athletic, and projectable at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, showcasing some of the best bat speed and power in the class. He’s comfortably a plus runner with a huge arm that will play at any outfield spot. He's performed at every stop along the amateur circuit and earned a spot on Team USA 18u as an underclassman.

This is one of the premier bats in the 2023 class, even if he does physically mature into a corner role when it's all said and done. We’re talking about an thunderous bat that should hit for average and power. There are skeptics who worry about a myriad of injuries that have plagued Jenkins during his prep career. Jenkins has missed time with hip issues, hamstring issues and a broken hamate bone, something teams will need to consider.

10-7-22 - Pittsburgh Pirates: Way Too Early Look at the 2023 MLB Draft - https://rumbunter.com/2022/09/14/pittsburgh-pirates-early-look-2023-mlb-draft/ -

This year’s draft class is position player-heavy. Of FanGraphs’ top 10 ranked 2023 draft prospects, seven are position players, and only three are pitchers. Most are college players, but Walker Jenkins is the top high school player on FanGraphs’ list.

An outfielder from South Brunswick High School, Jenkins is praised for his mechanics, including his smooth swing, strong hands, and ability to spray the ball all over the field. Jenkins projects to have plus power, which should play up because of his ability to hit. He also is an above-average runner with a strong arm. His athleticism should keep him in center field. Jenkins is currently committed to North Carolina. Overall, Jenkins is a very well-rounded player.

2. Walker Jenkins, OF, South Brunswick HS (N.C.)

Jenkins’ summer was upended by a hamate injury, and he tried to rush back for Team USA trials, leading to a less than optimal performance. Scouts expect to see his plus bat and innate knack for finding the barrel on display once healthy in the spring.

Jenkins can hit liners for incredible velocities. He's got ridiculous power and he hasn't come close to reaching his ceiling. He's another guy teams will have to be patient on but he'll be worth it.

5. Pirates: Walker Jenkins, OF, South Brunswick High School (Oak Island, N.C.)

Like Max Clark, Jenkins didn’t set the PDP League on fire, but he showed an ability to barrel up the baseball and registered some high exit velos as well. He has the chance to hit, and with a ton of power. Look for him and Clark to get locked in as the summer continues.

Perfect Game -

https://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerprofile.aspx?ID=530952

Walker Jenkins is a 2023 OF/SS with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Oak Island, NC who attends South Brunswick. Huge projection in the tall build, wide shoulders and strength in the lower half. Ran a 6.75 in the sixty yard dash. A primary outfielder, aggressive routes to the ball with quick feet and a powerful back side to produce big arm strength/carry, accurate to the bases too.

A left-handed hitter, balanced and slightly open base. First pitch home run and did not stop. Anchors the back leg well and drives the lower half to create easy and loose barrel speed. Lots of length through contact helping with natural back spin. Premium athlete with highest level upside.
