Tom Brennan - Christian Scott, and Mets Etc.

Christian Scott Around draft time in 2021

The 5th round hurler from 2021 did not get the decision for Binghamton last night, surrendering 3 runs in 4.2 innings in part of a twin bill sweep.

But of those 14 Scott outs, 11 were by strikeout. Stuff that makes me grin.

He is 4-4 in 77 innings, 96 Ks, 2.93 ERA and a 0.91 sizzling WHIP, most of that (9 starts) being in AA.

Good for Christian Scott. May he pitch like Mike Scott, circa 1986.

Oh, and other stuff…

…the FCL Mets won in a game they totaled 5 hits, 5 errors, and 9 walks.

In that game, the rehabbing Matt Rudick was 1-3 and played LF.

THE NY METS?

Lost, naturally. Now 50-60.

Can they end up 50-112? Probably not.

52-110, maybe.

That’s it. Happy Sunday.

  2. Yup. 2024 is scary.

  3. It depends on what supplemental solid if not spectacular free agents are added as they keep promising not to trade away the farm.

  4. The losing isn’t the problem. It’s the lack of energy and spirit that is the biggest issue for me. Makes them unwatchable. And, why didn’t Marte go on a rehab assignment? Why exactly is DJ Stewart and Mendick taking at bats from Vientos?

  5. The losing is the best part
We should all be in on the plan… winning meaningless games serves nothing. The only race we are in is the race for that 6th pick in the draft

  6. The moping around by "the core" annoys me. I just don't think there gonna win consistently with McNeil, Nimmo, Alonso, Lindor, Marte. Need some fresh blood

  7. Ape, I don’t see Marte in the core. I think Alonso may be, but if he is the cleanup hitter this team will not be successful. He needs to hit #5 or #6. Your core is Alvarez, Lindor, McNeil, Nimmo, maybe Alonso, and whatever free agent they bring in (Ohtani).

  8. A team in downward-spiraling turmoil.

  9. Baty 13 for 85 (.153) in July and August, 32 Ks, just 6 RBIs. I know this season is a rookie adjustment year, but that is a wrong-way adjustment. Is he threatening to be a merely mediocre player at best? Does he simply need to be traded to San Francisco or Washington, like some other ex-Mets, to hit?

Do we think he'll be a positive impact player in 2024? 2025?

    1. Mauricio needs to be given the 3b job as soon as his rookie status can be retained
Baty to me never looked the part. Not to say he can’t still recover (a la Justin Turner) but he needs to put in a ton of work or be left behind by the newly acquired prospects

  10. Reese, we'll see what the 2024 plan is at season's end. People need to want to play here. Right now, few like Pham seem to come here and succeed.

Yes, Vientos should play every day. See if he goes the Baty path, or the Alvarez path. Need to know that THIS year.

  11. I wonder if there's a toxic clubhouse in play here. Certainly, there is a lack of chemistry.

  12. Ray, one has to wonder. Is it Gregg Jefferies days all over again?

  13. And why is Porky playing? Why is he still on the team? Anyway the total lack of energy is shocking and shouldn't be tolerated and that's on you Buck so when Stern comes on board please please please I know many changes will happen. To me with Buck it started when we didn't retaliate for all the HBP's as it set a very bad example and now he's old and tired and needs to move on pronto. It should be a very interesting winter because as we know SC won't hesitate to make the moves nessesary to improve this team so LETS GO STEVE!!!!

  14. In the Mets' 111th season game, Jose Quintana seeks to secure his first Mets win, and 7th after 2019. Nice.

Imagine if some prophetic person went to Billy Eppler when they announced the addition of Quintana, and said, "Billy, this guy won't win a single game of the Mets' first 110 games." Billy would have stood in total disbelief.

We Mets fans again stand in total disbelief, as another season circles the drain.

  15. Tom the circle the drain analogy is fitting because they play in "flushing" so maybe that's been the problem all along and not the fences! Look we will probably finish 15 to 20 games under .500 so really it sets us up for a big improvement next year if we end up at around .500 so the PR machine can go into overdrive. Hopefully that will be just the start.

  16. Mets do need to use this losing season to find out who should stick around. 2024 will probably be a payroll reset below the 237m tax. Hard to fill out a roster with 20m ‘cap space’ as of now. Remember, the Dodgers are resetting this year under the tax, and they are contenders. LFGM, in the minors! 6th pick, or 17th?

  17. DJM, very astute.

Gary, you and I agree a lot.

  18. Baty and Vientos couldn't have a better opportunity to thrive than now with the pressure off so it's time to show up guys! The overall lackadasical play is concerning and has to change ASAP! Watching the O's run circles around us is embarrassing and must serve as a lesson...Buck are you listening?

  19. Baty needs to shake his booty and start ripping baseballs. Vientos needs to awaken.
