This is the next post in a series intended to bring awareness to some of the lesser-known prospects in the Mets' organization This series will post a different prospect each weekday at 11:00am EST for the benefit of our fans.
Jordany Ventura is a 23-year old, 6-0/200 RHSP that was signed to an International contract out of the Dominican Republic.
Bonus money was only $25,000 on 7-25-18
Grading: FB 55. SLIDER 55. CHANGE 45. CONTROL 50 (sic)
Scouts loved his 95+ fastball with natural cutting action
That, plus a + slider and he showed early a great 2-pitch future
Room to grow frame. Quick arm action. Above average in Repeats delivery
Got off to great pro start at the DSL/Rookie levels... then COVID took away 2020 and TJS took all of 2021 and most of 2022.
Since then... in 2023 at A/A+: 83-BB in 103-IP
MACK spin -
I loved this kid early but he's going to be 24, has never pitched above the A+ level, and has a higher BB/IP% than my pug, Maggie May.
With all due respect, who wanted a deep dive into this guy? Was is someone hiding behind an anonymous name?
Like I said, I liked this guy early, but I can't see him surviving the new cuts that will lower all the roster levels.
Harness that control, Jordany. Then you can become the next Ace Ventura.
ReplyDeleteDecided to go all Tom on this one
DeleteMack, we had a guy a few years ago (name escapes me) who hit 100, but walked a man per inning in the minors. He has moved on. Gotta throw strikes.
