Good Morning. Happy Birthday to Mookie Wilson, Todd Pratt, and Danny Muno. The NY Post details Carlos Carrasco's fight with Cancer, MLB deadins the baseball and agrees to 7 inning Double Headers, and Mets Prospects play a Wild Card Game down under.

SNY.TV:
Mets have an emerging defense problem -- here's how to fix it. Brandon Nimmo, Dominic Smith, and J.D. Davis are all on track to play positions
they don't profile at. Writer Danny Abriano points out: “Davis was worth -8 DRS
in 34 games at third base in 2020…As one weak link, Davis' defense at third
base might be tolerable. But as part of a three-pronged problem with well below
average defenders also in center field and left field, it's hard to make a case
for the Mets not finding a solution for third…The Mets have interest in signing
Marwin
Gonzalez…an average to slightly above average defender at third base, could
also be an option to start there.”

Puma NY Post: Mets pitcher Carlos Carrasco won’t let cancer define him. “’People
who have had leukemia, who have had cancer, it’s not that easy,’ Carrasco said
on his introductory Zoom call with the Mets last month. ‘But you know what? I
always say, ‘My wife, my wife,’ but she was the one to get me through
everything. ‘Every time I talk to or go to the hospital to talk to some family
or teenager or kids, I always say that: Be strong. Never let yourself down.’”

Post: MLB is changing the baseball. “MLB has recalibrated the baseball for
2021, and the by-product could be fewer home runs. A memo was recently released
to all teams, outlining a decrease in COR — coefficient of restitution — to the
baseball, which correlates with bounciness. A higher COR means more bounciness
and the faster a ball will travel off the bat.”
NY
Post: MLB, union reach deal for 2021 season without universal DH. “…the
sides reached an accord on a document with many similarities to last year’s
approach in the 60-game season, including using seven-inning doubleheaders and
starting extra innings with a runner on second.”
MLB in process of finalizing revised Grapefruit League schedule, placing teams in separate “pods” on east and west coasts of Florida, sources tell me and @MattGelb. West-coast teams in FL will play 28 games and east-coast teams 24, making up rest with intrasquad-type matchups.

Carrasco story is amazing.
ReplyDeleteDH seems dead - baffling to me - and baseballs deadened too - sad 1-2 punch for 2021.
The two rules we don’t like are the ones they keep. Players don’t care about results, just zeroes.
ReplyDeleteYep - neither side wants to give an inch in negotiations unless it means less work for them.
ReplyDeleteIt look like guillorme has added a little bulk? I guess all batting cage sessions look better than game situations, but he looked like he is really driving that.
