McHugh, Reyes Help B-Mets Avoid Sweep, 7-3






AKRON,OH – Collin McHugh tossed 7.1 strong innings and Raul Reyes ripped a three-runhome run to lead the B-Mets past the Akron Aeros by a 7-3 score in the finaleof a four-game series at Canal Park on Thursday night. The B-Mets snapped theirthree-game losing streak by collecting six extra-base hits, including aseason-high five doubles.

Facingspot starter Mason Radeke, the B-Mets took advantage of a rare Akron error inthe first. A two-out walk to Reese Havens started the rally and Juan Diaz’sfielding error on Jefry Marte’s groundball to short set the table for Reyes. Itwas Akron’s 14th error as team, fewest in the Eastern League. Reyesmade the cashed in by ripping his first home run of the season over the rightcenterfield fence, giving Binghamton an early three-run lead.

Binghamtondoubled their lead in the fourth against former B-Met Jose De La Torre. JuanLagares greeted the reliever by ripping a double to left field. Travis Ozgabrought him home by banging a double off the right field wall.

JuanCenteno pushed Ozga to third my dribbling a single to the pitcher’s mound andMatt den Dekker plated Ozga with a sac fly to deep right field. Josh Rodriguezgave Binghamton a six-run edge my lacing a double to center. Pedro Zapata andden Dekker laced back-to-back doubles to tack on another run in the sixth.

Itwas all McHugh needed to rack up his team-leading fourth win of the season.After side-stepping trouble in the first two innings, the righty cruised fromthe third to the eighth. He retired 18 of 19 Aeros before Michel Hernandezdoubled in the eighth. McHugh’s night was done after allowing run-scoring hitsto Tim Fedroff and Juan Diaz.

McHugh’s7.1 innings were the most by any B-Met starter this year. He allowed three runson six hits and struck out five while walking just one.

ErikTurgeon took over and allowed an RBI single to Jared Goedert before getting twoouts to end the frame. Robert Carson entered in the ninth and tossed a perfectframe to cap the victory.

TheB-Mets (13-13) return to NYSEG Stadium to kick off a six-game homestand Fridaynight at 7:05 PM. The Harrisburg Senators, the Double-A affiliate of theWashington Nationals, make their first visit to the Southern Tier for athree-game series.
