Tampa 6 - St. Lucie 4

The Tampa Yankees erased an early 4-0 deficit and scored six unanswered runs to beat the St. Lucie Mets 6-4 on Wednesday at Tradition Field.

Danny Oh launched a two-run double in the fourth to tie the game 4-4. He scored later in the inning to put the Yankees up for good on a single by Abiatal Avelino that came on a 0-2 pitch from Marcos Molina with two outs.

Oh tripled in the sixth and scored on a sac fly to complete the scoring.

Yankees starter Chaz Herbert recovered nicely after allowing the first six Mets to reach on base hits in the first inning. Hebert got the win after pitching five innings and allowing four runs on seven hits. He threw over 30 pitches a first inning that saw Tampa warm up relievers in the bullpen.

After scoring 12 runs on Tuesday, including five in the first inning, the Mets looked like they were poised for another big offensive night. Their first six batters either singled or doubled. Michael Conforto and Dominic Smith both hit RBI doubles in the inning. Amed Rosario singled home a run, and Jhoan Urena’s RBI ground out made it 4-0.

It was lights out for the Mets offense after that. Over the final eight innings, the Mets did not score and only had three singles. Tampa struck out six batters in the final eight innings and induced two double plays, including one to end the game.

The loss spoiled a chance for the Mets to win back-to-back games for the first time since April 24-25.

The Yankees ended up with 11 hits. Avelino led the way with three. Oh went 2 for 4 with two runs, two RBIs, a double and a triple.

Angel Rincon earned his second save of the series and his fourth of the year.

Molina fell to 1-4 on the season. He gave up a season-high six earned runs and 11 hits. Entering the game Molina had not allowed more than two earned runs in his first five starts.

In relief, Julian Hilario pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless, no-hit ball. Hilario has not allowed a hit or a run in his last 8.1 innings.

Robby Coles retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth.

Offensively, Jeff McNeil and Smith led the way again. Smith went 2 for 3 with a double, RBI, run and walk. He is now 5 for 8 in his last two games with five RBIs.

McNeil had two hits. It was his 14th multi hit game of the season.

Phil Evans singled in the ninth to extended his hitting streak to three games since coming off the DL. Team press release
