Mets and Tigers discussing possible trade for 2B Ian Kinsler...
$11mil in 2018... 9 straight years with positive DRS numbers at second... 2017: .725-OPS... 91/wRC+ - Kinsler would be a great one year fix until Luis Guillorme becomes ready in 2019
Former 2013 1.1 Draft Pick, RHP Mark Appel, DFA'dby the Phillies... 17 starts last year for AAA-Lehigh Valley: 5.27. 1.76.
Trade: Yankees send RHP Ronald Herrera to Texas for LHP Reiver Sanmartin. The Herrera move was designed to clear room on the Yankees' 40-man roster prior to the Rule 5 Draft.
Herrera's best 2017 numbers were at the AA level: 9-starts, 8-0, 1.13, 0.82
Samartin rose to A ball in 2017: 7-G, 6-ST, 4-1, 2.62
Toronto outright former top outfield prospect, Harold Ramirez. The 23-year old Ramirez hit .260/.320/.358 in AA ball last season.
Cleveland DFA's RHRP Dylan Baker... 2017: AA - 13-G, 2.84
Trade: Yankees trade IB Garrett Cooper and LHP Caleb Smith to Miami for RHP Michael King and International signing bonus pool money
2017 -
Cooper - AAA: .366, 17-HR, 82-RBI
Smith - AAA: 18-G, 9-1, 2.39, 1.05
King - A: 26-G, 25-starts, 3.14, 1.09
"Kinsler would be a great one year fix until Luis Guillorme becomes ready in 2019" - NY Post wrote this today about Luis: Guillorme, a 23-year-old SS, has a penchant for acrobatic defensive plays. Last season he posted a .283/.376/.331 slash line with one homer and 43 RBIs for Binghamton. “He’s got very good hands — he relies on his hands quite a bit,” said a talent evaluator who has watched Guillorme. “He may feature more as a second baseman, but he can play shortstop, maybe a utility infielder.”
ReplyDeleteFormer 2013 1st round Draft Pick, RHP Mark Appel, DFA'd by Phillies. Don't draft power pitchers in the first round. Draft a bat.
Yankees aggressively managing their 40 man situation: send RHP Ronald Herrera to Texas for LHP Reiver Sanmartin. The Herrera move was designed to clear room on the Yankees' 40-man roster prior to the Rule 5 Draft. And trade IB Garrett Cooper and LHP Caleb Smith to Miami for RHP Michael King and International signing bonus pool money
Cooper - AAA: .366, 17-HR, 82-RBI
Smith - AAA: 18-G, 9-1, 2.39, 1.05
Clearly, they are stocked, and want Otani VERY, VERY badly to make international $$ part of this deal.
Kinsler has been a fine player, but turns 38 next June and hit .226 in July, August, Sept. How would he compare to a possible return of Neil Walker (39 months younger)?
ReplyDeleteAlso, as I do my draft series, Kinsler, with over 1000 career runs, lots of career steals, and nearly 250 homers, was picked in the 17th round - the only 2 guys the Mets drafted that as far as I can tell at a glance made the majors were Lastings Milledge and Brian Bannister. It was NOT a good Mets draft year (then again, that is what one can say of many, many years).
ReplyDeleteNow, I acknowledge that a lot of teams, not just the Mets, passed on Kinsler, but if the Mets were thinking of drafting offensive power and speed, would they have passed on Kinsler 16 or 17 times?
I'd rather see them go to battle with Flores at 2B, Smith at 1B (until T.J. Rivera is ready), and save their precious few dollars for pitching, pitching, pitching (and an outfielder).
ReplyDeleteIs there no way in hell that someone like Flores can be the one taking over 2B for a year until someone else is ready? He did a lot better than Kinsler last year so why pay 10.5M more for less production?
ReplyDeleteFlores reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield where he gets not respect.
Mets are the only ML team that would sit a potential 270/280/25/30/80rbi player so they can play instead someone on the downside of his career simply because he is not a Mets player.
By they way, for those wanting to replace Smith already, why not Flores at 1B if the Mets are not happy with Smith?
Viper, spot on. What if Flores plays 150 games and drives in 100? Very possible.
ReplyDeleteThomas,
ReplyDeleteIf Flores hits 30 hrs drives in 100 and bats 280, he would be fighting for a position in 2019 because he is a Mets player.
Stil Trying to still prove himself when he turns 40, most likely
