One of the tasks for new general manager Brodie Van Wagenen
is to sign Jacob deGrom who is under team control through 2020 to an extension which
he has stated that he intends to do.
deGrom has said that he does enjoy playing in New York and the fans have treated him great. He also said that he enjoys taking the mound at Citi Field in front of the fans and if an extension is what the Wilpons really would put on their agenda, then if deGrom felt it was the right move, he would be ready to meet with them to discuss contract.
He feels that you just have to focus on looking at what’s right for you and your family and make the big decision based on that thinking.
DeGrom still is trying to make an effort to deal with the fact that his former agent Van Wagenen is the general manager. It just caught him by surprise. During the summer Van Wagenen offered his opinion and said that the Mets should sign deGrom to a long-term deal or trade him.

There was a rumor at that time about the New York Yankees
being interested in deGrom, but talks were not that serious. The Yankees could
have used him since they lost in the second round of the playoffs. They have
needed that elite dominant starting pitcher that can be the ace of their rotation.
In my opinion there is no way that the Mets would consider trading deGrom now. The Yankees should try to trade for Noah Syndergaard which is what the Yankees need to get past Boston and Houston in 2019. I would like to see a trade of Gary Sanchez and Dellin Betances to the Mets for Noah Syndergaard Bobby Wahl and Kevin Plawecki. Both teams' needs would be met if this trade were to occur, but it’s not going to occur since both teams do not do business with each other.

In Mets Minor League news Tim Tebow is going to be the host
of the CBS competition series “Million Dollar Mile” which is produced by LeBron
James. I think Tebow is a good choice since he has done well in being a college
football analyst for ESPN. Van Wagenen announced that Tebow would begin the
2019 season at the Triple- A level.
He feels that Tebow earned the right to advance to the next level since he played well enough last season which enabled him to make the Double-A All-Star Game.
In Major League Baseball News Shohei Ohtani of the Angels won the American League Rookie of the Year Award beating out Miguel Andujar of the Yankees. Ronald Acuna of the Braves won the National League Rookie of the Year Award beating out both Juan Soto of the Nationals and Walker Buehler of the Dodgers.

I think the Mets would be nuts to trade away their key starters, personally. I think if they add a few REAL pen arms, upgrade catcher, and possibly a Josh D at 3B, the team could win if healthy.
ReplyDeleteHealthy is always a BIG if, of course.
I don't know the 5 starters' combined ERA during the 33-23 last third of their season, but I imagine it was phenomenal. Had to be sub - 3.00. I'd only mess with that rotation if we got an extreme haul. You want to trade one? Maybe at the mid season trade deadline.
Tebow always keeping busy. Let's see how he does in 2019. No one in the Mets' system for only their second year hit as well and at as high a level as Tebow did in 2018. That's a real accomplishment.
"Unknown?" I have to figure out how to fix that at my end :)

I think there should be NO ONE off the table in terms of trade talks. If someone wants to overpay, take the call, listen and then decide. Don't preemptively shut the door (or simply do nothing a'la Alderson).
Where's Monty Hall when we need him? LET'S MAKE A DEAL!
ReplyDeleteYay, it posted as me - i figured it out!
ReplyDeleteI like Jake and I would love to see him stay.....as always, it comes down to what he wants, compared with what he will provide (long term).
ReplyDeleteI don't like second generation contracts (usually) and he is going to be on the wrong side of thirty for all of it. But, there are always exceptions and Jake may be one of them.
Maybe a 5 year and 125 million dollar extension that starts in 2020? Bump up the salary a bit in exchange for a shorter term? (I may be way off on the numbers, FYI)
