Mets Links and Links from SportSpyder:

Brian Joura Mets360 covered a number of topics in “J.D. Davis goes to arbitration, Brandon Nimmo gets recognition, Mets shut out from top of IFA market.” He also talks about the pursuit of Brad Hand noting – “a little curious that there’s been no talk of reuniting with [Justin] Wilson, who was very good in his two years with the club. In 68 games with the Mets, Wilson had a 2.91 ERA, with 67 Ks in 58.2 IP... And while they’re at it, they should look to bring back [Chasen] Shreve, too.

  1. Welcome back.

Hand would be better than RE-signing Wilson, given his ability to close if needed.

That Lagares slam was truly a hanging meatball.

It will be interesting to see what Jamison Vilera does this season.

  2. Thanks Tom. I think Vilera will start the year in Brooklyn with a possible promotion to Binghamton. With less teams, there may be cuts in Spring Training. Vilera and all players will need to impress.

  3. Biggest thing about the LagarescHR is that it came off recent Mets acquisition Jesus Reyes. He has not pitched much this Winter but it is never good having a relief pitcher give up HRs.

  4. Reyes' minor league stats have been underwhelming. Relatively low Ks, high WHIP.

I would hope Vilera can start above Brooklyn, even though that is now the former Columbia equivalent now.. It is hard to figure where guys will start after the 2020 minor league season disappeared.

Minor league ball after losing lower minors teams will be higher quality, on a per-player basis. as presumably you will lose the weakest 60 or so players. Pitchers and hitters will have to perform against relatively higher competition.
