Mets Claim INF Angel Berroa Off Waivers
Assign him to Buffalo Bisons Roster
INF/OF Nick Evans Also Optioned to Herd
The New York Mets today announced that they have claimed INF Angel Berroa off waivers from the New York Yankees. Berroa has been activated to the Buffalo Bisons roster.
The Bisons also announced that INF/OF Nick Evans has been optioned to the team for New York and LHP Arturo Lopez has been placed on the temporary inactive list.
Berroa hit .136 (3-22) with a double and one RBI in 21 games with the Yankees this year. He started the year at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (AAA) and hit .316 (18-57) with two home runs and 13RBI in 14 games before being promoted to New York.
Berroa split the 2008 season between Omaha (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and the Los Angeles Dodgers. With LA, Berrora hit .230 (52-226) with one home run and 16RBI in 84 games. Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent in 1997 by Oakland, Berroa has hit.259 (661-2,548) with 46 home runs and 252RBI in 732 career major league games with the Royals, Dodgers and Yankees. Evans hit .250 (11-44) with one home run and six RBI in 15 games with the Mets.
