TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons host the Louisville Bats in the third game of a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd has won the first two games in the series with a 1-0 victory on Saturday and yesterday’s 6-4, 10-inning win. Buffalo is now 5-1 on its current eight-game homestand that started with a series win over the Bulls. The Bisons are 9-3 at home this season while the Bats are 4-10 on the road.
vs. THE BATS: This is the Louisville Bats’ lone trip to Coca-Cola Field this season. The Bats won the season series over the Herd last year, 5-3. However, Buffalo holds the 53-45 edge (.541) since the team’s return to the International League in 1998. That includes a 31-19 mark at Coca-Cola Field.
HERD ON TOP: The Bisons enter tonight’s game in sole possession of 1st place in the International League North Division. Buffalo leads Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by a half a game and Syracuse by a full game. The last time Buffalo owned the top spot in the North division was July 16, 2007 (team was 51-38).
BEST IN THE GAME: INF MIKE HESSMAN has more RBI than any other player in baseball. The Bisons’ slugger has 28RBI this season, one more than Detroit’s INF MIGUEL CABRERA. Yesterday, Hessman collected his third, four-RBI game this season. Of his eight home runs on the year, only two have been solo shots. Hessman now has 922RBI in 1,578 career minor league games.
HESS HONORED: The International League named INF MIKE HESSMAN its Batter of the Week for April 26 - May 2. In seven games, Hessman hit .321 (9-28) with four home runs, 14RBI and a .786 slugging percentage. On the season, Hessman ranks 2nd in the IL in home runs (8), extra-base hits (14), total bases (56) and slugging percentage (.651).
C.C. IT GO: OF CHRIS CARTER sent the Bisons to victory yesterday with a two-run, walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning. It was Carter’s fourth homer of the season and the Herd’s first walk-off blast since OF JESUS FELICIANO won a game on May 11, 2009 vs. Norfolk (9th inning). Carter is 2nd on the Bisons with four home runs and 17RBI this year.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (14-11) lost to the Phillies last night, 11-5. New York has dropped two straight and now trails Philadelphia by a half a game for first in the NL East Division. INF DAVID WRIGHT and C ROD BARAJAS both homered for the Mets. New York is now in Cincinnati and faces the Reds tonight at 7:10 p.m. in the first game of a three-game series.
