The second game of the five game series between the Greenville Drive and the Savannah Sand Gnats was played Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium in front of 1,740 fans. With ten hits and good pitching, the Gnats edged the Drive 3-2.
Savannah scored in the first: CF R.J. Harris singled, moved to second on a walk to the next batter, and scored on a single by 1B Travis Ozga. In the second, 2B Alonso Harris singled, stole second, and scored on a single by SS Wilfredo Tovar. The final Gnat run was scored in the 5th: RF Cesar Puello doubled and scored on a triple by 3B Jefry Marte. The right fielder may have lost the deep fly ball in the lights as the ball flew over his head and bounced in front of the wall.
Tovar went 2-for-4 and had one RBI.
Sand Gnat starting pitcher, Taylor Whitenton allowed only one run on seven hits, struck out 3 and walked two-he pitched 5 innings and with the win improved his record to 5-4. LeSamuel Martinez, Gullamue Leduc, and Michael Powers pitched the final four innings and gave up 1 run and struck out five. Closer Powers earned his 12th save of the year.
