Roman Kimball

Ht: 5-11 | Wt: 170 | B-T: R-R

Commit/Drafted: Notre Dame

Age At Draft: 17.8

Originally from upstate New York, Kimball might have gotten lost in the shuffle of an incredibly deep class of northeastern prospects. However, at P27 Academy in South Carolina, he might have a chance to standout more, and has the stuff to do so. Kimball is small—listed at just 5-foot-11, 170 pounds—but has a loose and fast arm with athleticism to dream on. He throws a fastball in the 90-94 mph range and will slash a breaking ball that is above average when he hits on it. He’s also shown feel for a changeup. Kimball is committed to Notre Dame.

Good low 90s fastball topping out at 95. High spin and ride in the zone. Big breaking curveball, again, high spin offering. Developing slider. Huge extension and extremely low release height leads to really impressive vertical attack angle. Modern arm that will appeal to model teams. Belief is commitment to Notre Dame is extremely firm.

2-23-20 - PBR -

Notre Dame commit. 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-hander was one of the most intriguing prospects at the event. The underclassman has an athetic frame that still has room to add some strength. Sat 89-91 from a high 3/4 arm slot with hip coil to his delivery. Arm is loose and clean and velocity is generated with significant lower half drive. Fastball showed late arm-side run and life through the zone. Curveball is a quality second offering at 75-77 with 1/5 rotation and solid depth. Changeup at 83-85 is thown with premium arm speed and showed heavy arm-side run. Also showcased a sinker at 88-89 with late glove-side movement.

Roman Kimball is a 2021 RHP/SS, IF, OF with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from New Hartford, NY who attends P27 Academy. Slender young build with plenty of physical projection. Fast arm from a 3/4's arm slot, has energy at release, ball comes out of his hand easily. Fastball topped out at 92 mph early, gets some arm side life at times with occasional hard sinking action. Adds and subtracts from his breaking ball, slider has some bite with good horizontal depth, also working on a change up. Will continue to improve as he gets stronger and develops consistency for all his pitches.

Kimball spent the summer and fall rising up boards as he just consistently dominated every time out, and the WWBA World Championship was no exception. The Notre Dame commit ran his fastball up to 94 mph several times and struck out 8 hitters in 3 shutout innings, dominating with that fastball and again showing flashes of both an above-average slider and above-average curveball.

Mack's spin -

Smart kid. Needed a change in scenery and now shines in the South Carolina.

Small guy, but he does hit 95.

Sounds like the making of a good low ball velo reliever.

5th-8th round.
