Southpaw Brad Dydalewicz (5-3) turned in another solid outing against the Sand Gnats as he held them to three hits over 6.1 innings of work in Lexington’s, 7-3, defeat of Savannah at Applebee’s Park Wednesday night.
Dydalewicz set down the first 11 Sand Gnats he faced before allowing a solo home run to Josh Satin in the fourth inning. The home run brought the Sand Gnats (7-7, 42-42) within two as the Legends scored three in the first three innings off Savannah starter Kyle Allen (5-5). Allen permitted a solo home run to Brian Pellegrini in the second as well as a solo shot to Steve Brown to start the third.
Allen settled down and set down all six Legends batters he faced through the fourth and fifth to give Savannah a chance to come back. In the top of the sixth the Gnats capitalized on an error by second baseman Albert Cartwright to prolong the inning. It was Satin again coming through with a single into left to score Jefry Marte that cut the lead to one at 3-2.
Lexington countered in the bottom of the frame and chased Allen from the game. He finished the game allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits in five plus innings of work. Savannah seemed primed to get out of the inning without too much damage but Lexington scored two runs with two away to open up their lead.
Sean Ratliff hit his eighth home run of the year in the ninth to pull the Georgia boys within four but that would be the final run the Gnats pushed across.
Satin and Marte each had two hits for Savannah while Jordan Abruzzo went 0-for-3 with a walk in his return to the Sand Gnats.
Jeurys Familia (6-5, 2.75) will look to guide the Gnats back into the win column when he takes the slab tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Familia has turned in quality starts in four of his last five outings which has resulted in three wins. Lexington will once again throw a lefty with the 6-9 David Duncan taking the hill in his first start of the year.
