Peter O’Brien:
7-13-10 from: - link - C, Peter O'Brien, Bethune-Cookman, Jr to be, 6'2 1/2 210, R/R, playing in a conference that's not top of mind, is not going to hinder this young man's exposure moving forward and it's put his team mates on display for 2010-2011 as well on the BC roster. Peter has a solid throwing arm, ave release, 1.92 with gear on and in game situation, also displayed level swing with line drive alley power and future HR power with lift to hit 15-20 HR in the ML. Shifting wise and leadership wise, no questions here. Loved his makeup in the heat too!
Cohl Walla:
7-6 from: - link - For the Whitecaps, the win over Harwich was a solid performance all around. Drew Martinez, the league leader in hitting and a fixture in the leadoff spot, got the night off. In his stead, Cohl Walla (Texas) stepped into the leadoff spot and promptly went 5-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI. Walla, a talented freshman who will be draft-eligible next year, had been off to a slow start. He was hitting .182 before last night’s explosion. Now, he’s hitting .289. Maybe it’s something about the Brewster leadoff spot.
Dillon Maples
7-11 from: - link – The USA Baseball 18U National Team beat the Greater Alliance N.Y. All-Stars 11-1 in game two of a twinbill Saturday night at University Field. Right-hander Dillon Maples allowed one run in the final frame.
J.P. Crawford:
7-12-10 from: - link - Crawford was one of the top players on a Lakewood team loaded with quality athletes. The team's starting shortstop, Crawford batted .410, had 50 hits and scored 49 runs in helping the Lancers post a 28-6 overall record.
Shon Carson:
7-13-10 from: - link - The Diamond Devils 17U Blue won the largest age group tournament in baseball history Monday afternoon at the East Cobb Complex in Marietta, Georgia, defeating FTB Mizuno 2-1 in the championship game of the World Wood Bat Association 17U National Championship. OF Shon Carson (2011, Lake City HS, Scranton, SC) of the Diamond Devils finished the week 13-32 (after going 0-6 the first games) and electrified observers with his combination of strength and speed. Eight of his 13 hits went for extra bases, which kept his stolen base total to “only” 6 bags, and he drove in 12 runs while scoring 10 times. He was at his best in the playoffs against the best pitching, going 10-17.
