Nick Evans homered in his first at-bat upon returning from a week in the Major Leagues, but Binghamton dropped a 6-2 decision to Bowie at Prince George’s Stadium Monday night. Evans ripped two hits in four trips to the plate, including the homer, his 16th of the season with the B-Mets. Evans, who played third base, smacked his shot to dead-center off Baysox starter Eddie Gamboa in the first.

Bowie (51-45) wasted no time responding. Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts, who is rehabbing with the Baysox, led off with a double down the line at third off starter Chris Schwinden. Ryan Adams pushed Roberts up to third with a single and Tyler Henson scored the rehabber on an RBI knock to left, tying the score.


The Baysox rallied to take the lead in the second and would not look back. Schwinden walked Brandon Waring to start the frame. Waring made his way to third on a wild pitch and Danny Figueroa’s groundout to short. With two outs, Schwinden walked Greg Miclat to put runners at the corners. In an attempt to pick Miclat off, Schwinden threw the ball down the right-field line, allowing Waring to score the go-head run and Miclat to reach third. Roberts compounded the mistake with an RBI single to center and Adams capped the inning’s scoring with a two-run blast off the foul pole in right, making it 5-1 Bowie. Meanwhile, Eddie Gamboa held Binghamton (50-46) in check with a season-long outing of four innings in the spot start. He allowed just a run on two hits with three strikeouts. Raul Rivero followed the starter and was credited with the win for tossing two innings of one-hit relief in his second appearance with Bowie.



Schwinden exited after five innings. He was roughed up for five runs on six hits and walked three in his sixth loss of the season. Bowie tallied again in the seventh off reliever Eric Niesen, who forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk to Danny Figueroa.

Binghamton’s final run of the game came in the seventh. Brandon Cooney issued a two-out walk to Kirk Nieuwenhuis and then wild pitched him to second. Sean Ratliff did the rest with an RBI double to left, plating Nieuwenhuis to trim the Baysox lead to four.
