The Brooklyn Cyclones fired on all cyclinders in a 8-0 shutout of the Tri-City ValleyCats on Saturday night. In Brooklyn's first game against Tri-City they completed their first shutout of the season and have now won five games in a row. The Staten Island Yankees were also shutout in Vermont, which improves Brooklyn's lead in the McNamara Divison to three games.
Righthander A.J Pinera dominated the Tri-City lineup over six innings, allowing only two baserunners while striking out five. It was Pinera's second career start and first career victory, improving his record to 1-2. LHP Brian Needham relieved Pinera and provided two scoreless innings. RHP Daniel Carela pitched a perfect ninth inning to seal the win for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones' are hitting 74 points lower on the road than they are at home, but the offense clicked in Tri-City, to the tune of eight runs and fifteen hits. 2B J.B. Brown had two hits, including an RBI double and a home run that extended his team-high hit streak to 10 games. 1B Jeff Flagg hit another home run -- laser over the left field wall -- in the ninth inning for the Cyclones' final run and his fourth home run of the season. C Juan Centeno returned from injury and had one hit, but was forced out as part of a triple play completed by the ValleyCats in the top of the 8th inning.
