Cutnpaste: - Anderson Hernandez, Hisanori Takahashi, Ike Davis, Jeurys Familia... and Wilmer Flores

Anderson Hernandez:

7-18 from: - link  -  The Indians have designated Anderson Hernandez for assignment, according to Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com. The switch-hitting infielder struggled at the plate with Cleveland this season, hitting .246/.270/.295 in 63 plate appearances. This marks the second time this season that Hernandez has been DFA'd by the Tribe. Cleveland designated the 27-year-old for assignment in April, though he cleared waivers almost a week later.

Hisanori Takahashi:

7-18 from: - link  - Hisanori Takahashi will face the Dodgers Thursday in his next scheduled start. The left-hander was knocked around Saturday night, giving up six earned runs for the third time in his last four starts. Still, the Mets, seeing as how Oliver Perez is their best alternative, will give Takahashi another shot Thursday. That said, the Mets are shopping for a starter, and the southpaw would undoubtedly be the one to lose his rotation spot if the team gets one.

Ike Davis:

7-12 from: - link  - TRDMB’s 2nd Annual Mets First Half Report Card - Ike Davis - B: Has been decent offensively, and being rushed to the bigs may have slowed his progress…still, has shown a lot of promise in his power, his general plate disclipline, and his ability to recover after a particularly bad game…defense is excellent and should improve…overall attitude seems serious and mature as well.

Jeurys Familia:

7-17 from: - http://baseballanalysts.com/  - Jeurys Familia dialed it up to 98. I'm very surprised to see that he's a starter in the minors, considering. At 20 years old, he can afford to throw one off-speed pitch out of a dozen offerings. Lots of time to work on that secondary stuff and that command. For now, that velo will do.

Wilmer Flores:

7-14 from: - link  - A lot has been said about Wilmer so I doubt I need to go into too much detail for everybody but obviously he's having an excellent season. He got off to a sensational start batting .341 in April while matching his 2009 homer total (3) in the first month alone. Though he did cool off quite a bit come June, his developing power (33 XBH already vs. 25 all of last year) and improving batting eye (23 BB thus far vs 22 all of last year) coupled with his already tremendous contact ability really give Mets fans reason to get their hopes up. After fueling Savannah's first half title, Flores hasn't missed a beat since joining Hi-A despite facing off against players 4-5 years his senior. I suppose a couple more homers wouldn't hurt but after a recent doubles binge his SLG is actually higher than it was in Savannah. Apparently scouts have even been surprised by how much better he looks on defense than last year, but don't get greedy as he still probably won't stick at short.
