Cutnpaste: - Lastings Milledge, Tagg Bozied, Ryota Igarashi, Jeurys Familia... and Octavio Dotel

Lastings Milledge:

7-17 from: - link  - Lastings Milledge will open the Pirates' second half as their regular right fielder. Manager John Russell said Thursday night, after the team's hourlong post-break workout at PNC Park, that Milledge's recent performance has convinced him to stop what had become a conspicuously imbalanced platoon with Ryan Church: Milledge is batting .276, Church .186. "Lastings has earned it," Russell said. "It's not about Church. It's about what Lastings has been able to show, how he's handled it, and that he looks like he's ready."

Tagg Bozied:

7-17 from: - link  - To call Reading third baseman Tagg Bozied well-traveled would be selling him short. After getting picked in the third round of the 2001 draft by the Padres, negotiations stalled and Bozied ended up in the independent Northern League. Since then he has played in five different organizations and has even done a stint in Taiwan. Most of his recent experience has been in Triple-A, but back in Double-A, Bozied is feasting off Eastern League pitching. He is currently second in the league in slugging and third in OPS. His chance to play in the big leagues in rapidly dwindling and may have already passed. But that hasn't stopped him from becoming one of best offensive players in the Eastern League.

Ryota Igarashi:

7-12 from: - link  - TRDMB’s 2nd Annual Mets First Half Report Card - Ryota Igarashi - Incomplete: Generous grade for a guy who has thrown a few serious meatballs…seems as though he was reaching a comfort zone before the injury, to which he has yet to fully return…something in the C- or D area will be what awaits him should he not turn it around with a healthy and productive 2nd half.

Jeurys Familia:

7-14 from: - link  - Consider Familia another bitten by the Mets pitching prospect bug: As I recently noted in a farm report, Familia just surpassed his walk total from all of last season in less than half the innings. On the bright side, his fastball seems to have gained a couple ticks as he now regularly reaches the mid-90's and still shows the tremendous sinking movement that has garnered a 1.59 GB/FB rate and allowed just two homers thus far. So at least the stuff is still there and considering this is his first exposure to truly advanced hitting, it's not that surprising or alarming that a kid with good fb command up to this point is suddenly a bit more wary of the strike zone. Also, he has reportedly spent a lot of time working on his changeup and slider and if he brought that work into the games that would definitely explain increased walks. So his stock is down but not by as much as you might think upon seeing his line.

Octavio Dotel:

7-16 from: - link  - Mr. Inconsistency posted a 20.25 ERA in two games while blowing two saves and taking a loss in the one game. He gave up four runs on three hits over 1.1 innings of work. Dotel now has five blown saves on the year. He’s struggling against left-handed hitters who have a .309 batting average and 9.24 BB/9 rate against him. Right-handers, meanwhile, have a .192 average and 1.61 BB/9 rate.
