Cutnpaste: - Ruben Tejada, R.A. Dickey, Angel Pagan, Juan Legares... and Jose Reyes

Ruben Tejada:

7-12 from: - link  - TRDMB’s 2nd Annual Mets First Half Report Card - Ruben Tejada - B-: Another youngster here a tad before his time; shows serious promise at a new position…Tejada’s ability to move from SS to 2B this smoothly speaks well to his overall talent…in addition, his improvement across the board in the minors year to year suggests a player with much potential to continue getting better…will he hit enough? If this team continues its progress over the rest of the year, a light-hitting, slick-fielding 2B in the 8 hole might be just fine in 2011…a few more months in Buffalo also might be what is called for here if Slappy is indeed healthy enough to squeeze three more months out of his rusting chassis.

R.A. Dickey:

7-19 from: - link  - R.A. Dickey – The 35-year-old knuckleball pitcher has made 11 starts in the majors this year and has 9 Quality Starts. His only bad outing of the year (5 IP, 5 ER) came in Puerto Rico in a stadium which is not really up to major league standards. Dickey throws strikes, keeps the ball in the park and gets his share of ground balls. Even though he has two road starts this week, make sure he is in your lineup.

Angel Pagan:

7-19 from: - link  - The potential of Angel Pagan has been there for years, but he never had the opportunity to flourish because he always has struggled to stay healthy. The biggest surprise of Pagan's 2010 is that he has avoided injury. His newfound health contributed to a great first half of this season. With healthy legs, Pagan burst onto the basepaths this year with 19 first half steals, making him an underrated base stealer in the NL. The switch hitter has picked up six home runs while posting a .315 batting average in the first half. If he stays healthy, his will continue to produce regularly. It also doesn't seem as though he will lose all that much playing time despite the return of center fielder Carlos Beltran. He can field just as well in right. Pagan has been a pleasant surprise this year, and is a great all-around player who can continue putting up numbers. Conclusion: For real

Juan Lagares:

7-14 from: - link  - One could argue for any of the three directions here. Lagares had a strong first half in Savannah, posting the best half season he'd ever had including a career high in homers and a much improved slugging percentage. After losing premium positional value last season moving off short, he capitalized on his tools and got it back by handling center field capably. He also is on a pace to more than double his previous high in steals. However, for all you cynics it was his third stop in the SAL and though his slugging reached levels he hasn't seen since his Dominican Summer League days, his typically troublesome K:BB rate didn't improve in the slightest. In addition he is off to a very slow start in PSL, though he is still young for the league. I tend to be more on the 'glass half full side' with Lagares and expect to see his solid contact skills shine through this season and a continued utilization of his strong raw tools long-term as he is finally handled more conservatively.

Jose Reyes:

7-12 from: - link  - TRDMB’s 2nd Annual Mets First Half Report Card - Jose Reyes - B+: The slow start and recent setback are all that keeps this grade below an A…Jose has regained his stroke and is once again amassing an amazing team W-L record in games he scores, drives in a run, steals a base, etc…and Jose’s fielding and cannon arm have been again creating calls for a Gold Glove.
