From: - http://www.ucasports.com/sport.asp?action=news&sportid=7&article=3800 - Former University of Central Arkansas baseball player Chase Huchingson was signed to a minor league contract by the New York Mets. The 6-3 left-handed outfielder/pitcher has been assigned to the Kingsport Mets of the Rookie Class Appalachian League. Huchingson, a native of Fayetteville, Ark., hit .236 in 89 at bats with 21 hits, three doubles, two home runs and 10 runs batted in. He made 13 appearances on the mound with 10 starts, going 1-4 with an 8.36 earned run average. Huchingson struck out 32 batters in 42 innings pitched.
From: - http://mckinneynews.net/news.php?nid=13934 - The McKinney Marshals' Chase Huchingson proved his worth to the Texas Collegiate League as an outfielder and a pitcher this summer. He also proved his worth to the New York Mets.
The Mets signed Huchingson, a University of Central Arkansas player, to a free agent deal. He is playing for the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League. That's a Rookie League team based in Tennessee. Huchingson was drafted in the 23rd round by Houston in 2008 out of Arkansas-Fort Smith and in the 34th round by Texas in 2007 out of Fayetteville (Ark.) High School. But he chose to play for UCA, where he struggled in 2010 with a .236 batting average just a year after hitting .355 as a sophomore in Fort Smith. That's where his success in the TCL helped plenty. Undrafted this year, his showijng for the Marshals led New York to tender him a free-agent deal.
