I May Be Wrong But...

1. This is definitely a slow time for Mets reporting. Adam Rubin tweets that the Mets are getting close to signing Chris Young and, by my count, eight other Mets news sources report the same thing within a half-hour after Rubin tweeted.

2. I really hope they get the Young thing done because I really don’t want any of the current players to have their positions changed. The Young signing should shut down the signing process and the team can go to camp with a defined idea where their rotation is going.

3. I wish Chris Capuano could remain as an RP and either Dillon Gee or Pat Misch be given the SP5. 2011 is going to be a moot season, and we all know the future rotation in 2014 latest will be Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey, Jon Niese, Jenrry Mejia, and Matt Harvey. Why not give either Gee and Misch a carrot for the hard positive work they have done in the past as a Met?

4. There’s a lot more people writing about Mets minor league prospects these days. I think it is great. It gives me more “cutnpaste” info to pass on to you guys, and some of it is very, very good.

5. The Buffalo Bisons rotation is 80% set with  Mejia, Boof Bonzer, Dylan Owen, and Josh Stinson. Owen solidified his role after some killer outings in the Mexican League this past 30 days. Candidates for the 5th slot include a returning Tobi Stoner, Misch, and Gee, depending upon who stays in Queens come April.

6. The B-Mets have a rotation problem… too many good candidates. Right now, the board includes Jeurys Familia, Brad Holt, Robert Carson, Chris Schwinden, Mark Cohoon, Eric Beaulac, and Brandon Moore. There’s no room in Lucy and none of the above names are ready for Buffalo, though Carson might wind up there.

7. One of the “battles” I’m going to miss seeing in ST is the fight for starting catcher for Binghamton. Both Kai Gronauer and Francesco Pena are “on paper” there and Pena is no longer surrounded with his brass believers that signed him. This could be Pena’s last stand, what with Blake Forsythe, Juan Centeno, and Albert Cordero right behind them.

8. Word is that prospect Jenry Marte will be given every opportunity to remain on third base in the Mets system. Currently, the Mets are a little light in 3B prospects, especially since Aderlin Rodriquez will be moved to another position, probably first base. Zach Lutz remains the top guy at AAA, but there is no need for a third baseman in Queens for at least the next three years.

9. I’ve asked three people if the Mets will enter the Albert Pujois sweepstakes and none of them said no.

10. Quote from Mets source: “Ricky Gervais has a better chance of pitching for the Mets than Ollie…”
