Questions For Mack - Spin For Duda? What’s wrong with a .300 platoon?

1.     Hey Mack...ok a few questions is what you want so here goes. With this news about Gee, how does it affect Harvey, or does it? Also would you play "Spin" in rIght over Duda now? And last but not least you mentioned to me that it didn't matter who the Mets added just so they add SOMEONE. A body to come in the door so it looks like management cares, but really if you had to pick that someone who would it is? Thanks, Gary Seagren

-we don’t have to speculate about Harvey because both TC and Sandy are quoted that they do not want to put him in a negative position. Gee, I thought we were playing baseball and what a great time to have your ‘future’ step up to the bump. But, what do I know?

The ‘Spin’ for Duda scenario (for me) is ‘let’s replace a bad player with a bad person. This whole season has me off base.

Let me ask you a question: Let’s say you have a platoon with LH right fielder and he hits .330 against righties. Next, you have a RH right fielder and he hits .330 against lefties. What is wrong with this if you have the 25-man space? The guy not playing usually pinch hits when starters come out.

I think we definitely see Harvey if Gee is done for a month+. Leave him down in AAA if we just need a spot start or two, but if there is a legitimate need in the rotation for the rest of the season then Harvey needs to get the call.

I'm so tired of Lucas Duda. He has a good bat, but his defense makes him a well below average right fielder. I feel like he costs the team 3-4 runs a week in the field. Unacceptable.

Justin, I think TC doesn;t want a repeat of the Elvin Ramirez panic mind fuck.

I agree with you... if it measn 4-5 starts, bring him up.

I don't think they did anything wrong with Elvin. When a player is absolutely torching AAA and there is a need at the big league level the player should be brought up. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

That being said, Harvey has historically struggled for awhile after he gets promoted. It wouldn't surprise me if he gets lit up his first few starts.

If Gee is out for an extended period they would look like idiots if they waited till September to bring up Harvey. They could very well be no where near contention by then.

Give the kid a shot!

Hey Justin,

I think you're right on a lot of points here. In regards to Elvin, I think he is far from "done" and we will certainly not hear the last of him anytime soon. He has good stuff and perhaps needed more time but when you have the talent, getting the chance and being able to prove yourself will arise more than just once.

With Harvey, you don't want to mess with a kid's head if he has to come up and pitch high-stress games. If he succeeds, that is huge. If he fails, that is huge. High risk, high reward. Harvey strikes me as the competitor who can survive a few rough, high-leverage starts so I would approve if Gee is out for more than a month.

Other than that, why not try McHugh or Hefner again? I do not understand the Batista decision.

Gee to have surgery Friday to repair an artery in his shoulder. Might be out for the season.

Bet we see Harvey next week. There's going to be tremendous stress and pressure on him regardless of when he makes his first start...whether it be next week, September, or April 2013 it doesn't make all that much difference.

From Harvey's reaction to not making the team this spring (was extremely disappointed), I have to think this is the type of mental gamer who won't be messed up from pressure and/or failure.

If that's true, I have to think he's the best option. If there is ANY doubt about his readiness, you can't risk it.

I know this is dangerous, but I've ALWAYS been a proponent for Mejia in the rotation. He wouldn't take long to stretch out. Give Hefner three starts then Mejia? Why not?

Is it confirmed that Harvey will pitch Queens next week?

Stephen Guilbert said...

No, and I doubt he does.

Mack Ade said...

so... if it's not confirmed than everybody stop jumping the gun...

God, I hate rumor shit.

I'm sure he will have more surgery but wait for it to happen.

It's speculation, and it's fun. It's a huge question mark, why shouldn't we play GM and guess what happens? I wish Mejia were still stretched out. If not, I want Hefner in there if it's not going to be Harvey, not Batista.

Someone left this post with one of long anonymous numbers. It wouldn't let address it unless I reprinit it thi was

Why are you always bad mouthing Valdespin???

A bad person? Really do you know him personally to say this are you going off of hearsay...

This is probably why that other mets pitching farmhand did not want to write a piece for your site

Stephen - you are right - it's still at the speculation point though he sure looks like a goner for the year.

'Spin' - well, in one sense you are correct... you and I haven't had one conversation.

I have tried 100+ times but you fall behind that old 'no speakee the language' thingy. You and I both know you can carry on a decent conversation... in english... if the... RIGHT camera is on.

I never wrote detains about your suspension in Savannah.

I never wrote about the problems you continued to have in St. Lucie, under Tim Teufel, and throughout up the line.

The last catch you made in centerfiekd was a hot dog leap that just wasn't necessary.

ypu play the game like it's yours to do with it what you want. I jut don't agree with it.

I have no idea what pither you are talking about. His loss.

I'll lay oof.

Play more baseball and less circus acts.
