The Royals announced that catcher Jason Kendall has retired

Red Sox have signed RHP Nelson Figueroa to MiL deal, assigned to PawSox.

7-1-12 – Mets paid Bobby Bonilla $1,193,248.20. Will pay same every July 1st through 2035.

AAA – Buffalo:

RHP Chris Schwinden takes the mound tonight for his 12th start of the season. In six starts on the road, the righty has a 1-2 record with a 1.99ERA and 36K in 31.2 innings of work. Since his return to the Bisons rotation on July 14, Schwinden has 3.00 ERA and 10K in 9.0 innings.

AA-Binghamton:  

LHP Mark Cohoon (4-7, 3.59) makes his 16th start of the season and third against the Rock Cats. Since returning from the Buffalo Bisons (AAA) on July 5, Cohoon has gone 1-0 and compiled a 1.77 ERA in three starts. The southpaw took the no-decision in his last start against the Bowie Baysox on July 19. Cohoon allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out three over a season-best 7.1 innings. In two starts versus New Britain this season Cohoon has gone 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA. The Rock Cats have hit .273 against him.

RHP Blake Martin (3-3, 3.98) makes his 30th appearance of the season and his seventh start. After starting the year in the bullpen, the Alabama native joined the rotation in mid-June. Martin tossed two innings in his previous start against the Harrisburg Senators on July 19 before the contest was suspended by rain. Martin has gone 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA as a starter this season. He has made two relief appearances against Binghamton, suffering one loss and amassing a 3.86 ERA. The B-Mets have hit .143 against the righty. Selected by the Twins in the 17th round of the 2008 draft out of Louisiana State University, Martin is in his third season with New Britain.

SP Mark Cohoon had a no-hitter through the 6th innings, and then kept it together for the eventual win: 7.1-IP, 5-H, 3-R, 2-K, 2-BB, 3.60.

SP Rafael Montero had another A+ quality start: 5.2-IP, 4-K, 0-BB, 2-ER, 2.43. Boy, do the Mets love this kid.

Another of Frank Viola’s favorites, Jake deGrom, shined: 6.0-IP, 9-K, 1-BB, 1-ER, 2.47

A-Low – Brooklyn:

Tuesday – Loss, 3-6

The Cyclones had the lead early, but SP Rainy Lara (6.0-IP, 2-ER, 6-K, 3.03) departed when Aberdeen tied the game up. Timothy Peterson (4.66) came in and gave up three more runs and the Clones never came back from it.

            We’ve been writing a lot of negative things about SP Akeel Morris, but tonight might be the cake: 2.0-IP, 10-ER, 5-BB, 12.90.
