Tom Brennan: UGLY

ALKA SELTZER TO THE RESCUE

Blow out loss. 10-2?  Ugh.

Down 3 games to 1.

You fill in the blanks.

I wanted McNeil and Winker to start instead of Bader and Martinez.

Hitting matters against a potent LAD team. You aren’t winning 1-0.

Besides the early Mark Vientos home run last night, the only highlights I saw were when McNeil hit a sac fly that wasn’t, because Nimmo (on 3rd) is lame, and was held up, and the following at bat by Winker, a lined shot that was nearly a grand slam that would have made the then-5 run deficit become a one run deficit.

You can’t win if you barely score.

Perhaps all you want to do is to do Chicago White Sox impressions.

My advice?

Play the real hitters next time.

McNeil and Winker.

Instead of Schlemiel and Stinker.

PETERSON V. FLAHERTY 5 PM TODAY

The season is on the brink.

They should get Tom Cruise to throw out the first ball.

Tom,
It has been a good ride. We need to show up tonight ready to give it our best and make the Dodgers battle for a win.

The Mets are a great team. They are giving us October baseball while playing a far more superior team on multiple areas. I will not knock them while they are down. Instead, I will sing along with The Temptations tonight

Its been a wild and fun ride. I was at the clincher of the NLDS and its a moment I wont forget as Lindors grand slam landed to my right and the crowd went wild. So strange to be playing this far into October. No matter what happens Stearns turned the club around and he hasn't even been around for a year. I feel like we are in good hands going forward. I hope at the very least we send it back to LA.

My problem with last night was that Mendoza allowed the Dodgers to dictate who he was playing, starting Inglesias and Martinez rather than Winker and McNeil due to “matchups”. That answer was unacceptable.

But don’t worry, Mookie Betts can troll them when they’re down:
“We know that (the Mets are) going to come back, ready to go,” Dodgers star Mookie Betts told the FS1 postgame crew Thursday after taking a 3-1 series lead with a 10-2 blowout win at Citi Field. “(Francisco) Lindor’s probably gonna have a nice speech and get them boys ready to go.

“But we will too. We’ll be ready to come throw some haymakers tomorrow.”

If I were Robert’s, I’d start that left handed throwing in the bullpen to make sure Mendoza pits Inglesias in the game because he can’t take him out afterwards due to needing him if he has the lead to play him at 3B for Vientos. The Dodgers are not stupid.

Gus, I agree.

McNeil's fly ball with the bags full went 287 feet, which should be plenty to score a runner from 3rd. Winker's ball would have hit the ground 3 feet from the wall if not caught - he just missed what would have been a grand slam. Better to be lucky than good. Right now, the Mets are not as good and not as lucky.

There has been much to be learned from this series so far. The Dodgers to their credit have dominated the strike zone by laying off pitches that are balls. Tremendous plate discipline. Mets pitches that are usually swing and miss are watched for balls, even when just a few inches off the plate. This has led to more runners on base and more fast balls in the zone that they have driven. Great approach. This can't be learned in a day so it is a lesson for next season.

Mets pitchers walked nine batters last night. I think they've walked around 30 batters in the series. This number is horrendous. They led the league in walks during the season. This must be addressed by management. Get guys who throw strikes. This must improve next year if they want to continue being successful.

In the 3 games we have lost a lot has gone wrong. The walk thing is definitely the most glaring to me...its insane how many batters we have walked and its unbelievably painful to watch.

The Dodgers have also been smarter about how they use their pitching. Mendoza has been able to leave starters in longer before the Dodgers series because they were pitching well or we had a lead. This has not been the case against the Dodgers. He left Sevy, Quintana, Senga in too long when they clearly didnt have it. This isnt the regular season. When they struggle let them come in and give up multiple baserunners before bringing in the RP!!

The Dodgers know the 3rd time around the lineup is when performance drops off drastically and have made the corresponding move...they also know when to use their high leverage relievers including closers in more pivotal situations. Yes they have better arms but you see it working.

Everyone is baffled about how JD Martinez is getting starts in these pivotal games when he has been ice cold for about 45 days now and Winker is red hot. Also you have McNeil...play him.

Anyways none of those things probably changes the outcome of any of the losses the Mets were clearly outclassed in their losses but who knows, maybe it at least makes the games closer or forces LA to use more resources.

Well, finally the “A” lineup comes out. Mendoza needs to learn from this.

Winker and McNeil are in - count me happy, win or lose. At least our hitters' line up is being used, to score some runs off of Flaherty. May it be many runs.
