The New York Mets traded OF Tyrone Taylor and SP Clay Holmes, to the Chicago Cubs, for their #2 prospect, 3B/SS/2B Jefferson Rojas.
Rojas is only 21/years old and is already excelling at the AA level.

I had some 'insider' information that suggested that Holmes was almost certainly on his way to Milwaukee. But Milwaukee resisted doing a version of what Adam had hoped dangling a package that solved several of their needs in front of them would induce them to do: namely give up one of their two top ranked infeilders. The Cubs were willing to do with a bit less going back their way, and thus the switch from Brewers to Cubs
It may be that Rojas is not as overwhelmingly good a prospect as either Made or Fischer, but he is damn good and we parted with two players neither of whom is under team control beyond this year.
So that is quite a good deal overall. And it makes the additional get from trading Weaver in a separate transaction something of an overall bonus.
Two-for-one should go the other way. Holmes was an exceptional pitcher and should have fetched Rojas and another lower ranked player. Taylor was always an exceptional defender and has recently found something in his swing. This was too much to pay. Maybe the Mets thought this was revenge for the PCA trade, but I don't think it will work out that way.
One of our rare disagreements Paul. Holmes has done a really good job for the Mets but he is a rental who has to be worked back into the rotation of any team he was traded to. And that team has him for only the stretch run. I know the Cubs offer was the best available. No one offered more because of the injury and limited evidence of full recovery and time needed to get him back to form. The only other option for the Mets was to enter extension talks with him and they have too much uncertainty about the offseason to have had a firm idea of what would have been a reasonable offer for him. They had the same worries other teams did, and would have missed the opportunity to get something for him by keeping him around.for the remainder of the season.
What I don't disagree about is what the bullpen will look like these last two months. I expect we will see some piggy backing of starters as we still have both Manaea and Senga and a good chance that another starter from the minors will join the team in September, almost certainly Tong who may be asked to do double duty. Right now, I have no idea who will be replacing Minter, Raley, Brazoban and Weaver for August.

Stearns’ finest moment yeaterday, he could have done the same with Weaver by attaching Raley instead of getting two struggling A Ball players.
