MACK – Let’s Revisit - RHSP - Abner Meza

Abner Alejandro Meza (often referred to as Alejandro Meza) is a 19-year-old right-handed pitcher (RHP) in the New York Mets’ system, currently with DSL Mets Orange. Key Background
  • Born May 6, 2007, in Ahome, Sinaloa, Mexico (near Los Mochis).
  • Signed by the Mets as an international free agent (UDFA) on January 18, 2025, for a $10,000 bonus.
  • Listed at 6'0", 175 lbs; bats/throws right.
  • Low-bonus signing who has performed well in the Dominican Summer League (DSL).
Performance Notes (as of late August 2026)He has put up strong numbers in the DSL, including a recent stretch with a sub-2.00 ERA, solid strikeout rates, and very good control (low walks). One update noted roughly 1.81 ERA over ~50 IP in 2026 with strong K/BB marks; he was named to a 2026 Rookie-level All-Star team. Career MiLB numbers (primarily DSL) show a low-2s to mid-2s ERA range with positive strikeout and walk profiles for the level. Pitch Repertoire / ArsenalPublic details are limited (typical for a low-bonus DSL arm), but available scouting notes and reports describe:

  • Fastball: Primary pitch. Max velocity reported up to 94 mph (recent Instagram scouting note); pre-signing it climbed from the mid-80s into the low-to-mid 90s (reports of 90–93 mph). Usage around 51% in one noted look. Described as a power arm that attacks the strike zone.
  • Curveball: Secondary pitch in his mix.
  • Changeup: Also part of the repertoire.
Scouts have viewed him as relatively complete for his age due to the three-pitch mix (fastball + curve + change), with notes on pitchability, command/zone attack, and projectability.

He is still early in development

There is no way to project DSL players. Could be all-stars in five years. Or could be grape pickers
