B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

With a 12-1 win last night, the New Hampshire
Fisher Cats notched their fifth straight win over the reeling BMets.
Binghamton has now lost three in a row to drop to a
season-worst 20 games under .500. Brad Holt made his third
start of the season and gave up four runs in 3.1 innings with
six strikeouts to take the loss. The B-Mets got their only run in
the second inning when Caleb Stewart left the yard for the
second time this season, and for the first time since returning
from the disabled list Wednesday. Shawn Bowman came
through with his first four-hit performance of the season, including
a double. The Fisher Cats reached with eight straight
hits at one point in the seventh innings when they plated five
runs in the seventh inning off reliever Stephen Clyne. Brian
Dopirak smacked three hits including his 19th homer of the
season to extend his season-best hitting streak to 16 games
for New Hampshire. The Fisher Cats outhit the B-Mets 19-10
in the game.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

LHP Mike Antonini will return
to the starting rotation tonight after making two relief appearances
of three innings each. His last appearance came June
28 at Akron when he tossed three scoreless innings of relief
to pick up his fifth win. Antonini is 5-2 with a 5.02 ERA in 66.1
innings. As a starter, he is 4-2 with a 5.37 ERA in 11 starts.
Last season, Antonini made eight starts for the B-Mets with a
1-3 record and 3.74 ERA in 45.2 innings, allowing 10 home
runs. He was the Mets’ 18th-round selection in 2007 out of
Georgia College & State University.

RHP Rey Gonzalez, who was recently named an Eastern
League All-Star, will make his 15th start of the season tonight
for New Hampshire. Last time out, Gonzalez went six innings
allowing three runs against Portland to take the loss. He has
lost three straight starts entering tonight’s contest. Overall,
Gonzalez is 3-5 with a 3.18 ERA in 79.1 innings. Right-handed
hitters bat just .180 against the righty. Binghamton beat him
at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium May 11 when he allowed
three runs in six innings in the B-Mets 3-2 win. The Cubanborn
righty finished tied with B-Mets’ starter Dylan Owen for
the Florida State League-lead in wins with 12. He recorded an
ERA of 3.14 with a record of 12-4 in 137.2 innings with Dunedin
(High-A) last season.

STEWART STRIKES BACK:

In just his second game back from
the Disabled List, OF Caleb Stewart hit a home run in his first
at-bat last night off Fisher Cats’ lefty Luis Perez to provide the
B-Mets with their only run. It was Stewart’s first homer since
April 9 at Trenton. He has hit 31 homers in his three-year
career with Binghamton. Stewart had missed 58 games with a
strained left oblique muscle before returning Wednesday.
