Buffalo Game Notes

TODAY’S GAME:

Today, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in a day-night doubleheader from Frontier Field (1:05 p.m., 7:05 p.m.). The Bisons opened up the four-game in three-day series with an 8-3 victory last night. On Tuesday, the Bisons will return home to face the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in a two-game series from Coca-Cola Field. vs.

THE WINGS:

The Bisons are 1-2 against the Red Wings this season, collecting their first win of the series last night. Prior to that, Rochester had won a pair of single games over the Herd, April 28 in Rochester (0-1) and July 3 in Buffalo (2-6). Buffalo holds the 99-79 (.556) advantage since their return to the IL in 1998. The only other team Buffalo has more wins against since 1998 is the Syracuse Chiefs (100-86).

DAY BECOMES NIGHT:

This will be the Bisons first day-night doubleheader since July 10, 2004 in Durham. That long day of baseball included two, three-hour games, with the Bulls winning 4-3 in 10 innings in game one (3:01) and the Bisons winning game two, 10-9 (3:03). Slugger Russell Branyan homered in both games and RHP Adam Hanson earned the victory in game two. It would be Hanson’s only game ever with Buffalo.

HOT HITTER:

C Robinson Cancel has the team’s top current hit streak. The veteran has hit in nine straight, averaging .314 (11-35) since June 19. Last night, Cancel reached base three times going 1-2 with a pair of walks. Former Bison Wily Mo Pena has the season-high with his 13-game hit streak, May 25 -June 7.

FELLIN’ FELICIANO:

The hits keep coming for OF Jesus Feliciano. He went 2-5 last night and is now averaging .305 on the season (10th in International League). Feliciano has faired especially well on the road this season (.352, 38-108) and against the Rochester Red Wings (.462, 6-13).

WHOA NELLY!:

RHP Nelson Figueroa was selected to the International League All-Star team yesterday. The veteran was a perfect 3-0 with a razor-thin 1.53ERA in five starts in June. Overall, Figueroa’s 2.63ERA is 8th in the IL. He also leads the Bisons with nine quality starts. Figueroa will be joined by Bisons manager Ken Oberkfell, who is a coach for the IL All-Star team.
