SAVANNAH, GA – Mark Cohoon threw his third-straight complete game shutout as the Savannah Sand Gnats (40-26) blew out the Rome Braves 12-0 at Historic Grayson Stadium on Wednesday night. The Augusta GreenJackets lost 15-6 to the Charleston RiverDogs, so the Gnats now lead Augusta by one game with four to play in the season’s first half. The Gnats head to Augusta for four games to finish the half. Savannah must win at least two of the four games in Augusta to secure their first playoff berth since 1996.
Cohoon gave up just four hits, walked two and struck out seven, lowering his League-leading ERA to 1.30. In his last 27 shutout innings, Cohoon has struck out 22, walked four and given up just 10 hits. He has not allowed an earned run in 35.2 innings.
The Gnats have now won four games in a row and 10 of their last 12 as they chase a first half championship
