2011 DRAFT: - Grayson Garvin, Cohl Walla, Cole Lankford, Kyle Gaedele... and Kyle Winkler

Grayson Garvin:

7-19 from: - link  - He’s a big lefty with a solid-average fastball and average secondary stuff. He has a chance to get stronger, but I think he fits best as a potential #4 starter. He should be a starter for Vandy next spring behind Sonny Gray and Jack Armstrong, so he’ll get plenty of looks. His command is what helps him.

Cohl Walla:

7-18 from: - link  - On Texas outfielder Cohl Walla (.259/.313/.310, 4 RBI in 58 AB): "He's only a freshman; he's going to be a special player. Long and lanky, needs to put a little weight on his body, he can really patrol center field. He's got a 90-93 arm that he's going to use next year. He'll toe the rubber for us at some point this summer and get a few innings. UT's intention is to pitch him at some point next spring. He has a good approach to all fields, got some power, runs well. He's an 18-year-old kid with a lot of tools. He's got the same body as Jarrett Parker. He makes better contact than Jarrett did up here—Jarrett swung and missed a lot. Cohl will swing and miss, but he can hit the ball the other way, doesn't try to pull eveyrthing."

Cole Lankford:

7-13-10: - MaxPreps Junior All-American Baseball Team - Cole Lankford, Lamar (Houston, Texas), Catcher - Committed to play at Texas A&M after next year, Lankford was first team all-state and first team All-Greater Houston by the Houston Chronicle. He batted .541 with 10 home runs and 68 RBI.

Kyle Gaedele:

7-21 from: - link  - OF, Kyle Gaedele, Valp, showed plus tools and great physique, displayed plus power in HR Derby and ran a 4.3 on a turn which is abv ave, short turn however, throws have some carry when he's on top of his throws. Size, 6'3 215, R/R, Jeff Franceour type build - Solid enough glove to be RF, may play some CF in ML. 250-280 type hitter, will get out front on occasion on change of speeds but keeps eye contact.

Kyle Winkler:

7-23-10 from: - link  - USA CNT Roster Breakdown, Spring Stat Links and Trials Notes: - Kyle Winkler RHSP So. Texas Christian Univ. - Trials Notes: Winkler matched the fastball velocity he showed down in Houston at the College Classic this past March, regularly ranging 90-92 mph, with several 93s and one evaluator registering a 94. The biggest improvement from the Spring, however, has been with his breaking ball, which has climbed into the mid-80s and hitting as high as 88 mph on Friday. It boasts very hard, late break and works well as both a freeze/backdoor pitch or as a chase offering. Most impressive is his ability to set it up with his fastball, working down against lefties and then burying the slider and working up-in against righties and freezing them with a slider on the inside half. His change-up has climbed a little, as well, to the 82-84 mph range, as opposed to 80-82 in March, but Winkler is still feeling for it. He throws from a high-3/4 slot, getting downhill on his fastball and tilt on his slider (which can get close to a "downer" at times). He looks to have added some strength in his trunk and core over the last few months, though some will still label him a future reliever given his listed sub-6-foot height. Winkler has a solid build with a repeatable motion -- he could be equally effective as a starter or power arm in the pen for Team USA, and will likely slot-in behind Purke in a solid TCU weekend rotation next Spring.
