2011 DRAFT: - Jose Fernandez, Jake Floethe, John Simms, Brett Mooneyham... and Mark Threlkeld

Jose Fernandez:

7-13-10: - MaxPreps Junior All-American Baseball Team - Jose Fernandez, Alonso (Tampa, Fla.), Pitcher - First Team All-Suncoast by the Tampa Tribune, Fernandez was 10-1 with a 0.87 ERA for the Ravens. He struck out 107 batters in 72.1 innings pitched. He also batted .408 with 5 home runs and 29 RBI.

Jake Floethe:

7-18 from: - link  - On Cal State Fullerton righty Jake Floethe (2-1, 0.84, 17-9 K-BB in 21 IP): "He may have the best stuff. He's 90-93 with heavy sink and a good changeup. The slider's something he needs to refine a little bit, but he looks like he's playing catch. It's an effortless delivery."

John Simms:

7-20 from: - link  - John Simms (Woodlands, Tex.), Daniel Camarena (Bonita, Calif.) and Lance McCullers (Tampa, Fla.) combined on a five-hit shutout to lead the USA Baseball 18U National Team over the St. Cloud All-Stars 3-0 Monday night at Faber Field. Simms (3-0) tossed six shutout innings allowing just four hits with four strikeouts. Simms continued to get ahead in the count and frustrate the St. Cloud batters. The Woodlands, Tex., native benefited from a pair of outstanding defensive plays to keep St. Cloud off the board.

Brett Mooneyhan:

7-21 from: - link  - Brett Monneyham (Stanford) scattered three hits over five innings to pace Team USA to an 8-4 win over the Omaha Diamond Spirit of the MINK League Tuesday night at E.A. Fricke Field. Mooneyham (1-0), who allowed a run on two hits in the first inning, struck out four with no walks and allowed just one more base hit over the next four frames.

 Mark Threlkeld:

7-21 from: - link  - 3b-IF, Mark Threlkeld, La Tech, 6'2 plus and 200 plus, R/R, strong with 70 power, turned many heads of the 30 plus scouts in attendance and a couple former front office execs with his HR Derby display, barrel of the bat was squared during BP, during the game showed the same bat speed, tends to overswing some but does make adjustments, again facing different pitchers each time in these Showcase/All-Star events is tough but good hitters make adjustments before they get into the box and while they are at the plate. This kid is going to hit enough with enough power to be mentioned in the Top 50 players come next spring. This was my first time seeing him for sure, showed 50-60 arm, 50 glove, needs to be a bit lighter on his feet (technique), reminds me of former ML Ensberg who played for the Astros. Solid makeup too.
