Asheville Takes Two

from press release

Twice on Monday, the Asheville Tourists scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to come from behind and beat the Savannah Sand Gnats. The first game was the completion of Sunday's suspended game. The Gnats took a 4-2 lead with a three-run eighth inning. 1B Travis Ozga's two-run double put Savannah in front and LF Nick Santomauro's sac fly gave the Gnats a two-run lead. However, up two runs, Savannah closer Michael Powers blew his first save of the year in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, and two runners on base via walks, Asheville CF Delta Clearly Jr. doubled to center field to tie the game. Tourists 2B Angelys Nina followed with a single into center to bring Cleary home with the winning run.
In the nightcap, the Gnats again came from behind to take a lead. Down 1-0 in the top of the fourth, 3B Jefry Marte singled home R.J. Harris to even the game at 1-1. The Gnats made it 3-1 in the fifth thanks to singles from Santomauro and DH Jet Butler and a double from SS Wilfredo Tovar. Marte has hit safely in eight straight games, tying his personal season-high.

Savannah starter Jimmy Fuller, making his first start in two and half weeks, gave the Gnats four innings of one-run baseball. Gabriel Zavala followed that effort with three scoreless innings of his own. Zavala has not allowed an earned run his 10 innings in a Savannah uniform.

Up 3-1 in the ninth, Savannah turned to LHP Brandon Sage to protect the lead. He reached two outs, but could not shut the door as Asheville erupted for three runs. LF Eliezer Mesa delivered the game-winning single for the resilient Tourists.
