Mike Antonini offered up his fourth consecutive quality start and was rewarded with a win as the B-Mets raced past New Hampshire 5-1 in the late innings at Merchantsauto.com Stadium Thursday night. The southpaw worked 6 2/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on six hits to pick up his sixth win of the season.
Antonini and Fisher Cats’ starter Rey Gonzalez dueled to a scoreless deadlock entering the sixth inning. However, Michael Fisher led off with a single and was advanced to third when Sean Ratliff lined a single to right. With one out, Marshall Hubbard hit a slow roller over the head of Gonzalez that was gloved by shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria on the second-base side of the bag. Hechavarria managed to force Ratliff, but Hubbard beat the rap at first, allowing Fisher to score the game’s first run.
Binghamton (49-43) extended its lead in the seventh. Raul Reyes singled to center opening the frame. Salomon Manriquez followed and sacrificed the runner up to second. Gonzalez proceeded to walk Jose Coronado, leading to Brahiam Maldonado. The right-hander quickly got ahead of the slugging leftfielder, 1-2, but hung a slider which Maldonado tattooed to left for a three-run homer, his sixth jack of the year, upping the lead to 4-0. Ratliff put the finishing touches on the inning with an RBI double off reliever Danny Farquhar, plating the B-Mets fifth run.
Antonini worked into the seventh as well. Shawn Bowman reached starting the stanza on a botched flyball in center that dropped in between Maldonado and Ratliff. Ratliff, the centerfielder, was charged with the error, allowing Bowman to reach second. Eric Thames pushed the runner up to third with a single to right and Antonini allowed the lone New Hampshire (55-37) run to score on a wild pitch. Thames led all hitters with a 4-4 performance, including a double.
John Lujan replaced the starter with two outs in the seventh and struck out Jonathan Diaz looking, following a walk to Matt Liuzza, to end the threat. Lujan worked 1 1/3 innings scoreless and was followed by Edgar Ramirez who tossed a scoreless ninth to seal the win.
Fisher rapped two hits and scored two runs out of the leadoff spot and Ratliff led the B-Mets with a 3-5 showing.
