Brooklyn 2, Mahoning Valley 1

from press release

Lefthander Angel Cuan baffled the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in a 2-1 Brooklyn Cyclones victory on Friday night at MCU Park. Brooklyn has held opponents under two runs only once before, and was 0-6 in one-run games coming into Friday night. The Cyclones have now won six straight games at home, and are 14-2 overall at MCU Park.

The Cyclones scored both of their runs in the third inning on a two-run homer by SS Luis Nieves. All of Nieves' RBIs this season have come via the home run. CF Darrell Cecilani went 1-for-3 with his 11th stolen base, and has now reached base safely in 22 straight games, the longest such streak in the league this year.

Cuan frustrated Mahoning Valley hitters for 6.2 innings, earning his third win of the season. He allowed eight hits and just one run, as the Scrappers went only 1-for-10 with runners-in-scoring-position. Cuan lowered his ERA on the season to an even 2.00. RHP Samuel Taveras faced one batter in the seventh inning, inducing an inning-ending groundout with the tying run on second base. LHP Hamilton Bennett threw a perfect eighth inning, striking out two and preserving the 2-1 lead. RHP Ryan Fraser earned his third save of the season with a perfect ninth inning, striking out two batters. Fraser has struck out 21 batters in 12.2 innings and leads the league in strikeouts per inning.
