from press release:
The Clearwater Threshers (49-48) cruised by the St. Lucie Mets (50-45) in the series finale by a 6-1 score Wednesday afternoon at Bright House Field. The win gave the Threshers a split in the four-game set, and back-to-back victories for the first time since July 2 and July 3.
Steve Susdorf got the scoring started for the Threshers in the third inning with his ninth home run of the year, a two-run blast that scored Carlos Perdomo. Clearwater tacked on another run in the inning when Tim Kennelly doubled down the left field line to score Derrick Mitchell.
It would be all the Threshers needed as the pitching staff worked a solid game, giving up just one run on six scattered hits.
Jesus Sanchez was stellar on the mound, working five shutout innings for his eighth win of the season. Sanchez gave up just two hits and stuck out five to lower his ERA to 2.69. Jon Velasquez worked two innings in relief of Sanchez, and Chris Kissock (4) followed with a six-out save.
Clearwater added a run in the sixth on Fidel Hernandez's RBI double, and two in the eighth to put the game out of reach for the visiting Mets.
Jeurys Familia (2-6) struggled for St. Lucie, walking six batters and giving up four runs over five and two-thirds.
