Mid-Season Report:

7-15 from: - http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=11482 - A pair of eight-game winning streaks has catapulted the Mets to within two games of the wild-card-leading Rockies, but there’s reason to expect some regression unless improvements are made. The Amazins’ pitching staff is more pedestrian than it appears, sporting a SIERA almost half a run higher than its 3.81 ERA; rumored trade target Ted Lilly seems to have left his strikeout rate in 2009, but his fly-ball-oriented approach would suit Citi Field nicely, as would Octavio Dotel’s. At anything close to 100 percent, Carlos Beltran could be the most important acquisition any team makes during the remainder of this month, but his impact would be blunted if Jerry Manuel chooses to play out whisperer Jeff Francoeur in right field over Angel Pagan, who’s been the most valuable Met not named David Wright. Pagan and Jose Reyes have sped their way to nearly a win on the basepaths, and their successful rushing has helped the team from Flushing lead the majors in EqBRR.

Jason Bay:

7-15 from: - link  - It was Jason Bay bobblehead day at Citi Field, a beautiful sunny afternoon when 25,000 facsimiles of Bay were handed out to fans. But the only thing missing was the real Bay. On the day in which the Mets honored their $66 million man, their premier off-season acquisition, Bay was on the bench as the Mets tried to figure out a way to wake his slumbering bat and sooth his mind. And to quiet the boo-birds who now greet his every failure.

Pedro Feliciano:

7-12 from: - link  - TRDMB’s 2nd Annual Mets First Half Report Card - Pedro Feliciano - B+: When not asked to be more than he is, he actually gets the job done quite well…he’s just not good or dominant enough to be “the” setup guy…but still extremely effective against tough lefties, and overall remains awfully good and awfully valuable.

Eric Beaulac:

7-14 from: - link  - Though he's put up solid numbers against more advanced hitters, Beaulac is really just starting to catch up to players his own age so take that line with a grain of salt. Nor have his numbers actually been that good as evidenced by his 5.35 K/9 and .275 BABIP. However, his ability to get outs, namely groundouts, is undeniable, coming as a result of his slider which is looking more and more like a major league quality plus pitch. Beaulac himself requested a move to the bullpen and perhaps it's time for the Mets to heed his call. The lowering strikeout rates, reports of inconsistent velocity (anywhere from 86mph-93mph), poor platoon splits and a mediocre at best changeup all seem to point to a future fb/slider power reliever in the vain of a Bobby Parnell, minus 4-5 mph off the fastball.

I sure if he was on the can't miss prospects list, those numbers would get a whole different spin. The kid has been proving the blog experts wrong since the start. As far as major league quality pitches you should ask some of the hitters in the FSL 236 BAA or how about the 3.27 ERA. I know for the 70 innings he's pitched it must be luck. Oh I know the numbers are lying again.
