2011 DRAFT: - Brett Hoffman, Hudson Boyd, Kevin Moriarity, Porter Clayton... and Blake Snell

Brett Hoffman:

7-26 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=4  - Here are some names of draft eligibles for 2011 who have not been mentioned much and are definitely on the radar for 2011 MLB scouting depts. – Brett Hoffman, Moon Area Township HS, Penn, 6'1 190, R/R, can hit and throws ok, near solid ave, runs better on the way and good hands, may end up moving to 3b or OF, will need time in farm system unless he attends college and gets 3 full years in. Surprising player, good upside.

Hudson Boyd

8-12-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/high-school/events/under-armour-preseason-all-america-tournament/2010/2610524.html  - RHP - South Fort Myers (Fla.) HS Boyd is a strong, physical righthander with durable body. He consistently pitches in the 90-94 mph range with his fastball and throws a power curve with downer action. He's a workhorse type of starting pitcher and has committed to Florida.

Kevin Moriarity:

8-13-10 from: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=122  - The last Nats pitcher was a kid that I felt was a real talent, but a projection-type pitcher that still had some ways to go before catching the pro eyes. Well, RHP Kevin Moriarity announced that he has arrived ahead of schedule because he was steadily 88-90 in his one inning today, which is a bump from the 84-86 mph he was the throwing two days ago. I was speaking to a scout friend of mine that covers the Northwest and he said he loved Moriarity, but as a projection guy, and he hoped he didn't start to show that well until the spring. We had a text message exchange during the game when I was giving him the velocities for Moriarity, to which he said, "Really? I didn't want him to show that well here!" This kid is going to keep on throwing harder and harder. The cat is out of the bag.

Porter Clayton:

8-11-10 from: - http://baseballanalysts.com/  - Porter Clayton (Bonneville, Idaho Falls, ID), a southpaw with a pronounced leg kick, struck out three batters around a hit and walk in his only inning of work. He was 88-89 with a good breaking ball. Kevin Moriarty (Shorewood, WA) K'd five out of six batters, showing excellent command of an 84-87 mph fastball and a slow curve.

Blake Snell:

8-14-10 from: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=126  - Starting pitcher, LHP Blake Snell (6'4" 180, Shorewood HS, Shoreline, WA) is more along the lines of a prospect the scouts want to see, particularly with that body, being left-handed and having good present day stuff, with the ability to project more in the future. Snell was 87-90 mph with the fastball and has a good, big overhand curveball (73-75 mph) that he can use for outs or for strikes and can use to right or left-handed hitters. He also has a usable 78-79 mph change-up. Being from the Northwest is a bonus for Snell because those kids are usually a little behind kids from warm weather areas in terms of their overall development curve so scouts can feel good about projecting them even further. Snell is and will be a real good one. He attacks hitters and pitches very well off his fastball.
