RHP Jenrry Mejia to Start for Bisons TONIGHT
Buffalo Bisons’ RHP JENRRY MEJIA is scheduled to start TONIGHT for the Herd against the Syracuse Chiefs at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.).
Tonight’s game is the start of the Bisons final homestand of the 2010 season. Buffalo will be home through Fan Appreciation Night on Thursday, September 2 against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (6:05 p.m.)
Mejia, 20, is 2-0 with a 1.32ERA in six starts for the Binghamton Mets (27.1IP, 19H, 14BB, 26K). In each of his last two outings, the righty has thrown seven shutout innings. Overall, Double-A hitters are averaging just .200 off him.
Before the season, Mejia was named the Mets #1 prospect, according to Baseball America. Mejia made the Mets’ Opening Day roster out of spring training and pitched in 30 games out of the bullpen for New York. The 20-year old was 0-2 with a 3.25ERA in 27.2 innings of work (29H, 15BB, 17K). It was his first time being used exclusively as a reliever.

It turned out to be one hell of a start wouldn't you say? A little flirtation with a no-hitter is fun any time and encouraging for the Big Club. And this comes off a nice performance by Dillon Gee with 11k's in his last outing? So the youngins are showing promise.
