8/8/10

Binghamton 5, Trenton 1

from press release:

Jenrry Mejia output his longest outing of the season Saturday night with 4 1/3 innings of scoreless work and the bullpen was superb following him resulting in a 5-1 triumph over Trenton at Waterfront Park. Mejia limited the Thunder to three hits, walked two and struck out four.

Binghamton (55-59) wasted no time taking the lead. Jose Coronado led off and reached on a throwing error by second baseman Corban Joseph. Raul Reyes followed with a double to center off starter Adam Warren, putting runners at second and third. After Zach Lutz struck out, Sean Ratliff grounded out to short, plating Coronado to make it 1-0.

The B-Mets were back at it in the second. Josh Satin led off with a double to right-center. Brahiam Maldonado followed with a chopper to short. Trenton shortstop Luis Nunez fielded it and attempted to get Satin at third, but the throw was high, causing the tag to be late. With runners at the corners and nobody out, Jon Malo struck out. However, Coronado came through with a bloop RBI single to center, scoring Satin. Reyes capped the frame with a two-run double to right-center, advancing the lead to 4-0.

Ratliff tallied Binghamton’s final run in the fifth with his 12th homer of the season, a solo blast to left. Ratliff was 2-for-4 in the contest with the home run and a double.

Mejia exited in the fifth after issuing a walk to Nunez with one out. Eddie Kunz replaced him and settled in nicely, limiting Trenton (67-47) to a run on two hits with four strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings to earn the win, his sixth.

Manuel Alvarez and Roy Merritt worked scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to finish out the six-hit masterpiece.

Warren was charged with his second loss since joining the Thunder. The right-hander allowed five runs — four earned — on six hits and struck out eight over five innings.

Reyes went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI and is now 5-for-9 in the series.

The win ended the B-Mets four-game losing streak and an eight-game losing streak at Waterfront Park.
